B&h photo lens return experiences?

Bought a lens tried it a day but didn't like the final length? Website says 30 day free returns but may charge restocking fee?

Anyone experience restocking fee? How do they know if it's been used or not... Lens wasn't sealed or anything.

If you're going to return it anyway, why not just initiate the return process and see how it goes. The policy does indeed say they may charge a 15% restocking fee, but it's not guaranteed. I can, however, understand this policy. It reduces the occurrences of people using gear for free.
 
My experience is that there is no restocking fee, but I don't return much. However, is it possible you don't have a phone, or can't find their number?

The restock fee is infrequently applied. Contact [email protected] with the original B&H order number and they can assist you.

My experience is better with Adorama than B&H, B&H customer service is rude and not much helpful, 15% is a lot in the age of Amazon, call them to waive it, they should. never had any problem with Adorama, they only deduct $10-$15 in return shipping from refund.

Don't pay attention to the Solo-Life post. Since they could not reply in a helpful manner they decided to dump on B&H, I don't get it....the answer in no way replies to the OP.

WOW Henry, just in time... i just cancelled my Order #1057812529 with B&H minutes ago, because B&H could not locate the lens in their warehouse . Another order was cancelled a few days ago.

Happy to be a Adorama customer, sometime its not good to try new things (such as B&H), but we all learn from our experiences/mistakes...

We don't know this is the case. Just conjecture from your perspective. If the lens is less than 30 days old, I am confident the OP can work the return with Henry.

Well, you're entirely too late to do anything for the OP. This post is over a year old.

Even so, the 15% restock fee is only applied if the conditions of the return are not met. They are clearly stated on the Return Policy page.

So, all you're doing here is bashing a retailer.

Order #1057812529 was placed 6/6. Today is 6/7. I appreciate your impatience. I also found Web No: 1057803631 which was placed 6/5 and cancelled 6/6. Both for a used lens. I am sorry we disappointed you.
 
I returned a Nikon 70-300mm lens a few years ago right after I received it. The packaging was damaged, but the lens seemed ok. Out of an abundance of caution I still wanted to exchange. The B&H service rep said it was completely my option, so I chose the exchange. The service rep was very courteous and professional. Zero problems, no restocking fee. OTOH, I am not one of those who road tests equipment on the company's dime either.

You failed to indicate the reasons for the cancellations specifically when you promise it will be delivered the next day. And thank you for calling me impatient and not B&H for failing to deliver on their promised next day delivery.

agreed but i had two bad experiences with them within days and i will speak about it in all forums when necessary, its a free country (i think) :)
 
The U.S. First Amendment guarantees your right to speak free from government repercussions, with limits.

Free speech also has its consequences. Quite often, the person who claims "free speech" comes off sounding like an idiot, or they lose their job.

Personally, I wish DPR would ban/delete all posts about businesses, pro and con.

I think it reflects poorly on a retailer to discuss individual business transactions in an open forum.

It's highly likely the OP resolved this 13 months ago. Note - he asked a question concerning a restocking fee, he didn't say he was charged for restocking.

Yes, that is very questionable, isn't it? Solo-Life didn't provide any informed consent (express or implied) for that rep to disclose his order transaction details.

He should sue for invasion of privacy.
