Looks like canon store is having a sale. Check out the lenses too.

m50, 15-45mm, 55-200mm for $540. That’s a pretty nice deal if you ask me.

Body only is $460.

M100, 15-45mm, 55-200mm for $490. Not as good of a deal but the m100 is more compact.

M100 w 15-45 for $319.

Could this mean that they're getting ready to release an M100 successor? The M50 hasn't been out so long but I guess they could be lowering it's price point in order to create another M tier above it.

There have been many recent camera sales, so it's impossible to tell if they have a deeper meaning.

NO. It means Canon has excess inventory. All of the M models have had significant discounts on and off for several months now.

True, but I also think that Canon does price skimming on some models. I think the (too high) $900 launch price of the M50 is a good example of price skimming.

You can thank Canon USA for that one. The M50 was priced much for reasonably everywhere else in the world. That insane price only lasted a couple months before it got a perpetual discount. Canon USA has tended to overprice all of the M models relative to the rest of the world, but then they overcompensate by dumping those same cameras with massive discounts on the Canon USA refurb site.

does anyone have any experience with Cannon refurbs? My experiences with refurbished electronics has been hit or miss but mostly positive when companies offer one year warranties on refurbished products (like canon is).

Yes, I've bought several Canon refurbs and every purchase looked/worked the same as brand new plus carried the same 1 year Canon USA warranty. When Canon refurb items go on sale it's almost a no brainer.

One weird thing to watch for on the Canon USA website:

Sometimes new cameras are on sale, but refurbished cameras aren't. The end result is that buying new can cost less than buying refurbished.

Very true ... need to monitor prices at each of the sources.
