FW 1.2 doesn't seems like very good..

I've actually found 1.2 to be even snappier, stickier, and more accurate than ever. As an aside, 1.2 seems to have literally fixed the fixed pattern noise banding that trash youtubers coax out of deep shadows when underexposing by 5 stops and then jacking sliders in post.

This is huge news IMO and puts it on par with 5D4 shadow recovery, even with an always-on sensor.

That sounds good, but what do you think of eye tracking AF, since in that video it doesn't seems like it's working any better than FW 1.1?

Eye tracking works beautifully now with servo turned on. Love it now. I sold my A7r3 to get this camera as the RF 28-70mm F2 and the RF 50mm F1.2 were the deal breaker for me. Sure this camera is not as polished as a 3rd generation Sony but it definitely better than the first generation Sony though.

The video is stupid. .
I tend to agree..... While it does seem that the firmware still needs to be improved, I'm not sure that covering one eye really proves anything. The camera uses the physical characteristics of the eyes to locate what to focus on. Like he's says basically if you're a pirate, then you may have a problem. Can the others like Sony track under the same conditions? I'm guessing that they can....

Again a silly and pointless video, they where probably shooting at f2.? I noted they weren't using a Canon lens least alone a RF lens. I've asked the maker of the video to do the same test using a RF lens, I wonder if they will? I doubt it.

You can't even see his eyes with that overhead lighting. His eyes are completely in shadow and he's squinting in the bright midday sun. Terrible test.

I noticed that as well, the guys eyes were in deep shadows and it worked pretty well. How did photographers like this manage before eye AF !? You would think that Canon where charging for the update by the amount of bleating going on !

I notice that in single shot, eye focus uses box in box. In servo only a single box. Is that what others are seeing?

That’s correct.

I was one of the first to own a Eos r and complain here on the forum about banding when pushing shadows over 3 stops. I took the camera back to the store for a refund. Bought a z7 and within 2 weeks refought the Eos r. I missed it even though in some severe recovery situations the shadows got some banding. I didn't really encounter it so much in day to day use. Firmware 1.2.0 really fixes a lot of the banding when pushing. It mainly omits color banding, there is still some luminosity banding but it's way less noticeable. It's not as clean as a Nikon or Sony sensor but were talking but we're talking 4 instead of 5 stops recovery and shadow push. its a non issue now for sure.

face detect was already good, eye detect in servo is good, not as speedy as a Sony but it never gets in the way, where the Sony does somehow. I like. very happy now.
