I usually take fotos in dark buildings, using a tripod and L-bracket.

The new Z6 is not ideal for this - why is that?

You'll need a remote control for the trigger if working with tripods, however this is Nikon's answer to that requirement...
  1. MC-DC2 cable remote collides with the L-bracket - not useable, if L-bracket is attached
  2. WR-R10 does not work for the same reason - too big (and way too expensive)
  3. ML-L7 bluetooth remote would be ideal, but - is not supported by Z6 / Z7!
  4. Snapbridge? Takes about 10s to reconnect each time after camera went to sleep - very annoying!
  5. Ok, last possibility: self-timer - works, somehow - but is reset to single-shot each time after the camera went to sleep - you'll need to switch it on again manually each and every time - no persistent mode to be found in the menus
Bottom line: Nikon, a practical and functional remote control is missing for those of us working with tripods and L-brackets.

Did I miss anything?

How about a different L-bracket? Like this one, for example...

What are the smart phone apps for? Do you have a smart phone? Did you try setting up wifi instead of bluetooth?

I have the Yongnuo RF605n and one of those many Chinese L-brackets and things can go into places where they're supposed to go and they work.

I use qDSLR app for android an amazing app covering all the things Snapbridge is not doing right, not sure if it's available for apple, you have to turn on the WiFi and Bluetooth in your phone, so watch for a smartphone battery drainage in cold weather, I alternatively use a third party dc2 cable release.

Yes but does this bracket work when you want put the camera upright to do a vertical shot? Will the cable interfere with the tripod clamping plate?

Can you supply a photo showing the camera vertical with the cable attached?

Thanks

Yes I have a Smartphone and I have Snapbridge and I know how to use both.

Snapbridge will always use camera's WiFi for remote control and - takes up to 10 s to reconnect after the camera went into sleep mode, as I wrote. This behaviour of Snapbridge is crap, sorry.

I use an L-bracket on the Z6 and the MC-DC2 remote. Landscape, portrait, nowhere any problem ...

Works fine. The only problem is when you have to enter the plug into the Z6. So less space for our fingers, but it can been done and once you know the trick ...

Many thanks for the photographs which shows that the bracket is workable.

Thanks also to the other forum members for the additional links for other brackets.

I am going to order my Z6 today.

Thanks.

Here is a picture from my setup. My tripod head is a Benro HD3A three way head, which is a bit larger than yours. The remote's plug does somehow work, but the lock of the head would then only be partially used. I don't feel safe and comfortable with that.

Benro is currently the only affordable ArcaSwiss compatible 3 way head in Germany and I don't like ball heads when doing architecture shots.

I had a look at the other L-brackets suggested in this thread, but even with these, the plug & cable of the remote will be in the way and probably will not survive long, before the cable or worse, the interface in the camera, will be broken.

Can you maybe try to extend yours like this:
