Hi,

I’ve been trying to upgrade firmware however the camera doesn’t seem to go into mass storage mode. It did on the last time I upgraded. When I had it plugged in via USB and turned on it automatically displayed the Mass Stirsge screen. But this time whenever I turn it on plugged in it just displays what’s in the viewfinder like if I was taking a picture.

i know that it is detecting the camera as it’s displaying that it’s charging through being plugged into the laptop. Any ideas? I obviously have it set to mass storage in the menu and have tried changing to auto and then back again.

Thanks

If you haven't already, I would try another cable. Some USB's are charge only.

Thanks for your replies. Yeah I’m using the same cable I updated the last firmware with but it’s a good shout I will try a different cable. Could I use the mini HDMI port instead to try or would that not accept data in that way?

Yeah it isn’t the best of connections and is a bit of a fiddly port. Frustrating as it went into storage mode fine last time and it selects storage mode in the menu fine.

The last time that happened to me I had forgotten to reset the USB connection mode after tethering the camera to a PC.

Maybe don't update directly lol, in another thread we're looking for volunteers to do battery drain testing before and after the firmware update.

Sorry but how would you reset it so I’m checking I’ve done it right

Did you try turning off smartphone connection off first?

In the toolbox menu, USB connection should be set to Auto.

No you mean the Bluetooth connection option? I have never connected it to my phone before so didn’t think it would be that?
I only have the a7RIII.

I have noticed that in "NETWORK > Ctrl w/ Smartphone" is on, the camera disables mens other options in USB connections and HDMI settings.

Make all your changes without a cable connected

If you trying to update the A9, do a reset on the camera of all the settings. and Mass storage should be back.

The update would reset all your settings anyway
