congrats. sorry to say but 1Dx mkIII will be here before you know it![]()
i understand, i have a 1Dx that i have been using since 2013 and and didn't see any compelling reason to upgrade to v.II. i am very happy with its performance and probably use it a for a long time to come. the only thing it doesn't have a high pixel density sensor, which makes cropping critical as for as losing considerable amount of data is concerned. that is why i am very tempted to get a grey box 5DsR!Probably early 2020 but I got a super price for a brand new camera and the MKII will cover my needs for the next 5-7 years ..congrats. sorry to say but 1Dx mkIII will be here before you know it![]()

upgrading from another canon camera, the new camera operation is not a big deal. but i have to say that canon 1Dx cameras are loaded with features and if you don't use what you learned from the manual, you'll forget it in a few weeks time, at least i am that way ;-) everything in the menu seem very intuitive! good luck. You hit the nail on the head regarding the pixel density sensor.. one of the main reasons that I retire my 1D MKIII after 12 years ... cropping 10 mpx at high ISO gave me images with high noise and low IQ for today’s standards.

Also the 7D that I use from time to time shooting sports don’t have the most reliable AF and after missing a few important photos at a recent football match ( Bayern v Liverpool) drove me to the decision to upgrade ( about time after 10 years). Price of the 1Dx MKII was also a factor.
Time now to read the 500+ pages of the manual and 150 pages of the ‘white paper ‘ how to set up the AF!!
I am going through the Cases for setting the AF. For soccer/football/rugby , case 4 or case 6 ( good combination for case 4 & 5)?upgrading from another canon camera, the new camera operation is not a big deal. but i have to say that canon 1Dx cameras are loaded with features and if you don't use what you learned from the manual, you'll forget it in a few weeks time, at least i am that way ;-) everything in the menu seem very intuitive! good luck. You hit the nail on the head regarding the pixel density sensor.. one of the main reasons that I retire my 1D MKIII after 12 years ... cropping 10 mpx at high ISO gave me images with high noise and low IQ for today’s standards.

I own a 1Dx MkII (G) and am very happy with it. I would not worry about any newer versions. The camera you have will serve you faithfully for some time to come. I still own a 5D MkII and it is still a great camera. I have no intention to sell it and it remains my 2nd camera at the ready with perhaps, a different lens mounted.
Just in case you have not yet seen this...Time now to read the 500+ pages of the manual and 150 pages of the ‘white paper ‘ how to set up the AF!!

Thank you Tony! I couldn't wait any longer and at that price it was tempting... I know next year it will be replaced but still it's amazingly fast and the AF outstanding!
ok good to know, and what setting please , if you can share??I tend to use case 2 mostly.I am going through the Cases for setting the AF.
