Canon Australia - Slack!!!

According to the Canon Australia website, the 300D will be
available early October. (1st week so i've heard) They still
haven't announced the official RRP. Most people seem to be
estimating $1999. It would be nice of them to make the
announcement so we can actaully find the best place to order one
from.

I'm dying to get my hands on one, even just to play with in a store
while i find the best price. ;-)

After also looking at the prices of lenses and flashes i think i
might order them off the net. I can't imaging anyone in Australia
coming close to what some places are selling them for on the net.
Canon must be making heaps off the accessories in Australia. With
the Aussie $ doing well it makes things even more attractive. Does
anyone have any experience with e-tailers on the net. (wanting new
gear) I have checked places like http://www.dirtcheapcameras.com.au and
they still can't compete with overseas prices.
Well, sydney siders have gotten theirs first while the rest of the country has to wait. Especially South Australia. We are always last on the list.

Who got one ? I haven't seen anyone post that they have arrived yet!

I'm in Melbourne, hopefully the truck will drop some off on the way from Sydney to Adelaide :-)

Canon G2, 300D coming soon

I went to Ted's and Fletcher's in the city YESTERDAY. They're like the two biggest in Sydney right?

Ted's says the last they heard is they can get it when it comes out in November.

Fletcher's says they arrive between 10 days to 2 weeks.

I bet the real answer is.. Canon is giving different answers all the time because they have no bloody idea themselves!

By the way i really don't know if they are the biggest or not, i just thought they were pretty big for a camera place and i'm from up in Newcastle

Also, i would've put a desposit in by now... for both the shops and/or the online dirtcheapcameras place as well.

But the thing is, with dirtcheap i have to wait for an extra 6 weeks. I'd rather drive up to a shop and pick it up from there.

But even though i can now get it sooner from the shops, the prices are alittle higher. Now i'd be happy to pay $2000 for the kit but it seems that certain other places is selling it for a cheaper price that includes a greater option of lenses...

Just the waiting game for me. Heres hoping i'll have it in time for the Sydney Motor show coming up in a fortnight..

I was in Brisbane on Saturday (27th Sep), and Photo Contnental had the Body w/lens kit available, and in stock for $1868. Good price from a 'shop' if you ask me! The Rep also told me that the Body only kit will be available in AUS very soon, with a RRP for only $1749. Imagine what DCC will have that for! Prolly about $1600!

Terry

Did you get to see it and hold it yourself?

If so.. this would be the very most absolute first we've actually heard of anyone on these forums see it firsthand in AUstralia!

I went to 2 stores today. Plaza Cameras in Perth had two for demo. I got to handle one for a bit but it didn't have a battery in it. The other salesman spent some time with the "live" one showing some other customers. In my opinion it didn't feel plasticky but quite solid and certainly a lot bigger and heavier than my Oly c730. They were still quoting $1999 with the kit lens.

On the way home then called in to Gerry Gibbbs in Cannington. They didn't have one yet but expected them in next week. Their advertised price is $1799 for the kit, $2199 for the kit plus the Canon 55-200 and $2350 for the kit, additional lens and a 256mb CF card.

Much better price but they did say that their first shipment will be all sold out. Same at Plaza Cameras.

Sorry, I must add, that the 10 or so that were in the cabinet, had deposits on them, and they were not allowed to be released to the buyers until today... 1st Oct.

Yes I held one, and played with one... Honestly, apart from the few software differences, I found it cheap feeling, very light (although I am use to the BIG ED on my 10D), but very repsonsive, such as AF, shutter speed and the like.

I personally will not up/down grade

Returned home today to a very welcome message on the answering machine...your new 300d is in store ready to be picked up...

...only one more sleep! :)

Also, i would've put a desposit in by now... for both the shops
and/or the online dirtcheapcameras place as well.

But the thing is, with dirtcheap i have to wait for an extra 6

Why do you have to wait 6 weeks with DCC?

That although the 300D's release date is the 1st of October,
retailers probably won't see it till the second week in October
because of customs delays, etc...
I rang Canon Victoria and they said that the 300D would be released in Victoria sometime in either the first or the second week. The person didn't seem to know much about it though, so I hope they were wrong. I eagerly await a phone call from my store to announce the arrival of mine.

I just don't get it!

Some places are doing the $2000 retail with kit, whilst others seem to have this whole better deal going.

It dosn't sound like some shops are doing it cheaper than others, but it sounds more like Canon have a new pricing line for them...

Notice that all the shops that are doing it $1799 for the camera kit also have this extra deal with the tele lens too?

Heres hoping a shop will have that here in Sydney too, then i'll be all over it.

Until then i'm not putting any deposit anywhere, even if it means that i have to wait :(

Also, this thing with the body... we're getting some amazingly different answers and responses about it. It seems to be from one extreme to the other... one person says "Solid" and the other says "cheap".

All of the 300D/STF seem to be doing this.

Just got an email from DCC saying they've got their first shipment in and are going to start shipping them out tommorrow - not long to go now;-)

woops... i meant

Teds in the city are a usual rip off selling it at 1999... but they have price matching, so if they have it in stock quote them that rainers camerahouse just a few doors down are selling it for 1800 LOL. however these stores havent got it yet...

god ted just makes u work that extra bit more :/

also i went to photocontinental today they already sold their first shipment waiting on the 2nd lot.... their price is 1868.

for those who have friends or rellos going overseas, get them to buy the camera for you in THEIR NAME... it might mean you have to wait untill they get back, but your saving another $180 which means it costs $1620 if u get it from camerahouse !!!!

all these prices are for the kit
