6D GPS question

I don't think so. I always use the GPS on my 6D when traveling, including letting the GPS update the time and the photos have always been date/time stamped the time zone that the camera is set on.

Many thanks. I am very pleased to finally have a camera that does embed GPS location data, but parts of the GPS manual gave me doubts about time zones.

The very first thing I do when I download my photo's is run them through "Geosetter" which is a freeware program that will enable you to enhance your GPS information. It will allow you to add the location details, and show on a map where the image was taken. If you have forgotten to enable GPS you can use the search function, bring up your location, and "pin" a spot on the map where the photo was taken then transfer the information top your shot. Location's are also customisable, so that instead of "South Perth" I can change to "Perth Zoo".

Should you travel to a different time-zone, it will enable you to batch change the time zone to correct it as well.

the time zones in Europe are pretty screwed and you need to manually adjust them. The good news is most of Europe is doing away with daylight savings or moving to a fixed smaller amount.

Another vote from me for Geosetter.

I do a bit of family history, and having the GPS feature "ON" when shooting snaps of family graves is very useful for helping other family members. The choice of maps is good, and one of them, OpenStreetmap, shows the lanes/tracks in the graveyards I've visited.

Assumes windows. Also requires conversion to TIFF or JPEG before you can assign information. My photos have the GPS dat, just need a map attached by batch.

The GPS functionality will set the camera's clock according to the time zone selected in the camera (if this function is enabled). This local time is then tagged to the image.

The GPS will also store UTC in the Exif data, regardless of which time zone the camera is set to.

Time zones in America are much more screwed up than in Europe, so if you are in Europe, it's easier to know what to select.
