Alas only 5mp

There was an article in a photography magazine recently ("Outdoor Photography"?) about stock agencies moving to accepting digital formats, and often requiring huge file sizes, beyond any DSLR. It quoted various photographers who successfully submitted upsampled images from cameras with far lower pixel counts.

To be fair to the agencies, they might simply be setting the format to match what their clients in turn ask for, or to have a standardized file size and format regardless of source.

Didn't anyone tell you NOBODY listens to that stuff anymore?

Apparently I didn't get the memo either. I'm a classically trained vocalist and love it!

For what it's worth I plan on keeping my old "obsolete" film gear too.

I wonder if some of this is to limit the amount of submissions that they think would be not worth looking at. Maybe their reasoning is that if some can afford a 1Ds, there going to be serious about their work.

Any chance you could still find the source to that article?
Thanks.

I do NOT understand why an agency would decide on the acceptability of an image by camera make instead of actual image quality of the submitted file/s.
This seems beyond asenine to me.
I recently complained about resolution not being enough on some
cameras, because of the requirements of some labs that are
processing at 300 and even 400 dpi now. Most of the threads sharply
defended the lower res. designs? I don't know why other than they
had a lot of money invested in their current model.

Have you asked them specifically about the E-1? It would be
interesting to hear what they had to say.

I was asked to submit some of my photos to a stock photo marketing
company. All was looking good until I read their requirements page.

Alas the E-20 that I have and the E-1 that I am coveting are not up
to their standards.

The text of their page is below -

Are they over-expecting or is Oly under-achieving?

HI there

I've talked to several pros, who simply upsample the image to the required mp and send it in - there's no problem.

There's a lovely story about an English photographer (famous) he submitted a set of digital black and white files for a book - they were sent back as woefully inadequate. So, he printed them out on a studio inkjet and scanned in the resulting photos on a flatbed scanner, and submitted the (now much larger) files. No Problem!

If they want 17mb files - give them that!
