Hi,

can anyone recommend a waterproof case for a 5dmkiv? I don’t want a dive housing, just a case that I can take to the beach when taking pics above the water and in the waves but not submerged.

Thanks,

steve barrand

Are you looking for something like this:

https://www.amazon.com/DiCAPac-WP-S10-DSLR-Camera-Waterproof/dp/B00169HXW2
Hi,

Yea I am. I’ve seen that before but dismissed it because of some poor reviews.

thanks.
it seems that some of those reviews were from some who took the camera underwater. There are other types out there and am too looking into something more than the throwaway rain overs I sometimes use shooting at the beach on windy days.

Other professional solutions are priced high and sometimes costs more than a DSLR.

I believe you checked them too.

Yea I have checked the more expensive solutions.

There is another pack type solution from Aquapac but as far as I am aware, they don't fit the EOS 5D.

People who submerge their DSLR underwater inside of a bag deserve to have their cameras destroyed.

Protecting from splash or an accidental drop in the water is one thing, but expecting this to work in ten feet of water is ridiculous.

Actually I have been snorkelling (so maximum depth was probably about 3 feet) a few times with a 600D + 24-105L and 70D + 24-105L in a DicaPac WP-10, and had no issues at all.

Was I nervous when first submerging the camera - you bet !

But it worked rather well. I obviously tested it thoroughly by putting a tin of beans and a few dry tissues in it, sealing it up and submerging it at the bottom of my swimming pool for a while a few times.

If you follow the instructions of how to seal it, and take some care, the DicaPac works just fine.

I have taken photos standing in the water on the beach for surfing pics. If you are getting to say hip to chest then you probably need a real water proof/diving case as the big waves will get you. I bought one for my Sony RX100 since its cheaper and the IQ is pretty good. The DSLR ones as many pointed out are very expensive.

What type of shooting are you planning on doing at the beach? Have you considered an affordable action camera?

Years ago I had an Ewa Marine brand for a camcorder. That thing was great up to a few meters depth. If they are still made for DSLR's I would check em out

Seem to be still making them
