Hi All!

I have updated the firmware of my 5DSR to 1.1.2 and ever since the AF is not working, everything else is perfect!

When I focus on a subject, the depth of focus comes before the object, not on it.

I didn't drop the camera, I didn't use a wrong lens, I have tried macro adjustment and all, no luck!

I didn't go to Canon yet because it takes them ages, and charge very high

Have you been through this? any idea or solution?

Regard,
Ben

Sorry to hear about your problem. That really sucks. Regarding Canon Service, I have used them many times and contrary to what people post about their service, I have found it to be appropriately prompt. Good luck with your problem and please let us know how you resolve it.

Never experienced this myself.

Try reinstalling firmware and reset camera to factory.

That’s my experience as well. Usually posts are about compla, not positive experiences.

just delt with canon on phone over rc-6 remote not working . he advised to do a camera reset,,,then turn off camera,,,then remove battery. Wait about a minute,,,put battery back in,turn on,,,it solved my problem,,,don't know if it will work for you,,,but can't hurt to try !

MF is manual focus. Since it’s all lenses it’s not the cause.

Do you have an experienced camera store nearby that you could go to?

Call Canon first. Since you don't state where you are, tech support in the USA is 1-800-OK-CANON

I can think of one thing that would cause this during a firmware upgrade.

The 5DSR has a feature called micro focus adjustment. It helps create an adjustment factor for the front-focus or back-focus of lenses, compensating for the small differences in each camera body and lens that sometimes match up to cause the plane of focus to appear just before or just after the desired target.

The micro focus adjustment (often called MFA) can be applied in one of two manners: either a different focus adjustment for each lens, or one focus adjustment to apply to all lenses.

IF your camera was working well previously AND it was doing so with a globally-set MFA, then doing a firmware upgrade would nuke this and all other settings, causing your camera to return to its pre-adjusted state, which might entail a back-focus or a front-focus.

Ladies & Gentlemen,... here are the updates!

I went to Canon Middle East service center, and the told me after 2 day, they need to change the board because of water spots they have seen when the did the check. And this will cost over $1000

I took the camera body back because it didn't make sense to me that AF is the only thing not working, while everything else is just perfect!

I took the camera with me from Dubai to Bahrain, did food photography with manual focus, and it was just perfect!

Have you seen such a case? it's really confusing!

did you take your camera near water by any chance, or, did you handle your camera with wet hands? but still $1K is way too much for changing a board or the shop is pulling your foot ;-)

AF is working in your case, but it front-focusing. FW update resets any changes

Now you need to adjust MFA. If it is a Sigma lens that you are using then you need to update FW on the lens and adjust focusing using a Sigma dock

Ignore the Canon service advice, they just saw an opportunity to earn quick $$$$ by fixing the problem cheaply (adjusting AF) and then telling you that they changed the mainboard justifying $$$$
