55-250mm STM optically better than the none STM?

Recently acquired a 55-250mm STM lens and it seems to be pretty good. It's nice and light. I was wondering from others experience how it compares optically to the none STM variations?

The comparison here is very favorable: https://www.the-digital-picture.com...meraComp=736&SampleComp=0&FLIComp=4&APIComp=0

Here is a pic from today:

I have both. The IQ is similar between the 2 but the STM focuses faster and more quietly. The front of the old version rotates when focusing so it's tough to use a CPL with it.

Thanks. The difference between the STM and the others when looking at the Lens Image Quality tool on that site is pretty big. The STM seems to compare pretty evenly to the 70-200mm f/4L too (which I used to have). Here is another pic at 250mm:

I haven't tested this very carefully but from using the two lenses I got the impression that when the focus is dead on the two lenses seem to be so close in sharpness that I don't think I can really tell any difference. It did seem that the STM version I had hit the focus perfectly more often than the older version. Don't know if it was just something between my two particular units but I did find it interesting.

My experience with the 55-250 STM and the 70-200mm L is that sharpness is not much different, but the L produces more pop and better colors. The 55-250 is still a very good lens that costs and weighs less.
