FujiFilm S5 THIS IS NOT A RUMOR THIS IS THE REAL DEAL

Ok, so I post some in the Canon forum, but this is too good to be
try. I work for Wolf/Ritz in DFW and last night I got sent to
product training with some vendors (canon, nikon, fuji, minolta,
pentax).

I was invited to have some one on one time with the trainers due to
the fact that i am one of the top sales guys in the metroplex and
blah blah blah.

Anyways, Fuji. S5. Yes this is correct, they are devolping a S5
film digital film hybrid camera right now. Yes that is correct,
right now.

Wow you might say, what is it. Let me explain.

Built on the S2 technology, they are working on building a digital
slr that also accepts film.
How, why. Because they can darn it! Any who the low down on it is
this 18 megapixel. WHAT! 18? YES.

You take the image digital. AND THEN YOU CAN TRANSFER TO FILM.

AHHHHH! Ok, im sorry im shouting, this just excites the heck out
of me.

When might this concept camera be released. Not aleast for another
year and a half, but it out there and it is very real, and people
have seen it and touched it and used it.

Just back from a few days away. When I first read this my reaction was the same as most of the other posts: HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Anyway, I suddenely remembered that I saw something similar to this concept somewhere before, maybe even on dpreview. A quick search and I found this: http://www.dpreview.com/news/0305/03051201kodakasf.asp

Not much technical info but it appears to be reading/scanning the latent image off the film to produce a digital file. Perhaps I should have read it more carefully.

Why anyone would want to do this I can't think, neither the first time I read it or now.

Any DSLR and a lot of prosumer digicams of 5MP and above are producing better results than film for many amateurs and professionals.

OK we may look for improvements in digital in future such as improved dynamic range and noise free low light sensitivity. A Professional may be looking for more pixels to make even bigger prints but as a serious amateur with an S2 my file sizes are large enough and I can make prints to blow away the best prints I ever made from film.

Watch the source of any info you get on the web. This concept or some variant of it was being touted by KODAK in May this year. And just look at the recent anouncements, "We are acting with the knowledge that demand for traditional products is declining, especially in developed markets,"

Some companies are good at making big claims, at the end of the day most of it is just pompous, pontificating hype.

Nate forgot to mention that because of the extreme excitement and GROUNDSWELL OF CUSTOMER DEMAND for the S5 "Digiflimmy," plans for an S3 (12 mp) and S4 (FF 18 mp) have been put on indefinite hold.

Ok, I really think this is fun, but why would anyone want a digital/film hybrid? I cannot imagine. Top DSLRs pound film. Why bother?

If I had an 18mp digital, I might want to shoot a few rolls of grainy 3200 speed film for nostalgic reasons? LOL

Then you say "transfer to film"??? Why would I want to do that? Well because I'm a masochist and absolutely LOVE to scan film. Or better yet because I want to drag out the enlarger...

The post makes no sense.

Although there's nothing of real substance in this rumor, it's an
intriguing idea. Especially since the current S2 still has the
space usually occupied by film in the N80 body unused and empty!

hope you did not learn that by dropping yours to the ground.

If I remember correctly it also destroyed the latent image in the process

...I can't see Fuji craming 18mp into an APS sized sensor...otherwise the interopolated image would be 36mp(!) which would be good enough for 4x6's that are 1000+dpi.

At this point I just want to see an S3. In fact I would be happy with an updated S2 with an integrated battery solution. Any S5 seems just future dreamware now.
