** Weekly X Series Photo Thread 18 NOV - 24 NOV **

Excellent as always Truman. I noted your explanation about the selenium tone - as you'll have seen I usually use a warm tone reduced to about 25% - it began as a search for the warm blacks I used to get from fiber-based papers and I've got into the habit.

Vic
The reason I started toning (selenium) was to mitigate the warm blacks in the fiber-based papers - particularly Kodak papers. Oriental Seagull is wonderful paper but a bit warm but it's much better than Kodak. I finally settled on a Bromine paper call Brilliant which produced a print on the cool side of neutral.

I normally would tone Seagull but often didn't need to tone Brilliant.

However, it really depends on the subject. I tend to be drawn to subjects that I feel look better rendered cool. The warmth or coolness of a print is yet again simply one more tool in expression.

Very nice Vic but the last one is special. Great light with beautiful subject/background separation.

Nice series Vic! Like the colors and treatment.

Both nice, and I particularly like the 2nd one. I see the same tired but happy expressions that I see on my own friends' faces, after getting to the top of a mountain.

When things slow down a bit, I can always rely on the hummingbirds who frequent our feeder to put on a bit of a show. This is a male Anna's Hummingbird who likes to drop by every 15 minutes or so and chase away the competition. Taken handheld with X-T2 and 100-400.

This one works best in colour IMO. Super exposure here. I winder how it would look with the tractor vertical and the land sloping?

I feel so much better now that I've given up Hope

Very nice Jerry

They both work but what I forgot is that in a sloping field the tractor would tilt too. I see that's an American made John Deere tractor - what happened to the old Fergusons?

Colourful bird and sharp picture.

They just keep getting better. Beautiful. Even at 1/1600 sec the wings aren't frozen. What speed would you need? The only hummer shots I've tried were a blurry mess.

Beautiful location and images. You must have waded in to get those swans! The last image especially is really excellent.

Fine still life but the shadows don't completely match with the candle light. It is obvious that the candle is lighted from the side too...Yet compliments!

Cheers,

Willem

Thanks Willem :). And yes, I have a softbox at the camera right side.

That was a lovely tractor Vic, the driver jumped down to have a chat and a look at the images ( I always offer to send some images to the drivers and some say yes and some don`t bother) what caught my attention was the amount of gulls in the field waiting for the next pass. What a nice way to spend a sunny autumn afternoons walk with images to boot. I`ve got to know quite a number the guys who allow me on the land (away from the crops) but they always ask me to keep my eyes open for tippers which I do and have prevent a few from fly tipping.

Great assortment. I especially like the Statue of Liberty with the ghostly traffic. Very informative exif for that one: "32.9000015258789 mm". :-)
Hahaha, I wanted it to be clear there I was just shy of 33mm.

You know I've noticed that before and was wondering what was going on. I've looked at the exif before in the exported jpg and it's all there, including make and model of camera and lens, yet I don't see that information presented on the DPR hover-over info. I'm guessing that the code DPR uses to parse the exif is finding something it doesn't quite expect in what On1 writes, and it's not pulling up for the camera make/model, and not rounding the lens focal. 🤓

Thanks as always JS!
