** Weekly X Series Photo Thread 18 NOV - 24 NOV **

Took this one this morning, just a few minutes after sunrise. Probably could have used a hard grad filter on this, instead of trying to recover the blown highlights in LR.

Wow, very dramatic sunrise! It definitely paid to get out of bed for this one.

Thanks for sharing!

I headed to Big John's Pond at Jamaica Bay National Wildlife Refuge to photograph the birds during Thursday's Nor'easter here in New York City. Light snow began as I walked to the East Pond Blind and by the time I was setup the snow was falling at a good rate. The wind was out of the east and I was facing east so the snow was coming through the blind windows making it a challenge to look out and also to keep snow from striking the front of my lens. The birds were getting around yet most people in NYC were not as two 20+ car accidents on the George Washington Bridge quickly backed up through the city trapping the salt spreaders and plows in traffic so the snow simply built up making the evening commute horrific for all but those that only used the subway. My usual 30 minute commute home from Jamaica Bay took 1.5 hours.

This is beautiful Morris. I can't quite put into words exactly why I like it so much, but I've been sitting here for a few minutes just admiring it; it's very peaceful.

Thank you for braving the weather!

Hello all,

Last week my wife and I traveled to Las Vegas for the Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon. While this was not in any way a photography trip, I was able to sneak in some shots during our quick stay.

I brought with me the Rok 12 (f2!) and the good old 18-55. Mostly everything below was processed from RAW in On1 2019 (kicking the tires there) with minimal modification, but there's also some SOOC Acros in the mix; I'll point em out in the captions.

We were on our way back from somewhere, possibly packet pick-up for the race, and cut through The Cosmopolitan. There is a multilevel bar therein, The Chandelier, that well, resembles a chandelier. This photo really doesn't do it justice, so I recommend you search the web for some other shots of this spot. Next time we go we'll have to stop in for a drink here.

Saturday night my wife booked us a tour of the Neon Museum. The museum is located not too far from all the action on Fremont Street. It is essentially a boneyard of signage from Las Vegas hotels and casinos, with some signs being fully restored and others in various stages of disrepair. Our tour guide was great and overall it was a great way to learn some history of the town.

On the way back from the tour we stopped by the Belagio for some gambling, and to get some shots of the surrounding fountain area.

Oh yeah, did I mention that we were there for a race? So what is really neat about this half marathon is that 1) it starts at dusk 2) they shut down the entire strip to car traffic, so the runners were able to get some unique perspectives in their shots I bet.

While I was waiting for my wife to finish I went to the south end of the strip across from NYNY.

Finally, a shot off our balcony (via table-top tripod) to end the night (and this post).

Thank you Jakely,

For me it was a peaceful time alone in nature

Well captured Jake

I really like all the texture and the perspective in your second shot Bob.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
Thanks, Jake.

In digital's "infant" period of sensors texture and tones are some of what Fuji was looking for... And our current tech allows us to be the beneficiaries of the evolving sensor.

All nicely done. Just downloaded the current version of onOne but still have to find the "groove" with the interface. Most programs are fairly easy but my brain needs to force through its bottleneck of this program. Watching the instructional video of its newer "portrait" module makes it a prime focus for me to jump in and learn.

Amazing the treasures one finds lurking behind the ones and zeros of the past. I have a variety of backup disks with everything I've ever done w/a digital camera. Upon full retirement those get completely revisited and run through whatever wonderful software exists at the time.

Yes and mine was to free up HDD space. Last week I had 37 GB's free on a 1 TB SSD. :-O

I'm now moving files around with a new storage and backup strategy. I bought a 2x3 TB LaCie Thunderbolt drive over a year ago and first plugged it in today. I configured the drive in RAID 1 for complete redundancy and plan to move all my Lr files to the drive and include it in my Time Machine and Crash Plan backups.

Sometimes it takes awhile but I do finally get around to it. :-D

Very nice and it was obviously worth the effort.
