I like the camera bag like the billingham or other british canvas style, but find the padding take too much space, the bag look bunky but less spacious, it should be much smaller for the same volume. Can you suggest a bag of simmilar style but smaller &space effective for a mirrorless camera like sony a7 or nikon z7 wiith 2-3 lenses?

That's a joke .... after more than 30 years of photography I've never been seeing a bag that looks soooo small and has so much space in it like my Billingham Small!. In this small bag I carry one EM 1 II, 12-40/2.8 Pro, 17/1.8, the small flash, Panasonic 8-18/2.8-4 (both are big Zooms), the 45/1.8, the 25/1.8, the 75/1.8, two filters incl. cover, a lot of cleaning-gear, two spare-batteries, my CaptureClipPro. (instead of the 75/1.8 and the 25/1.8 you can also get the 40-150/2.8 Pro in!!!

O.k., than it looks cram-full.

If you put only the body with two zooms, the small flash and two additional primes in it and let the front pockets free than it's realy realy a small bag....

If you like it outside smaller, than it is inside definitley much smaller, like the Lowepro ProTactic SH 120 AW https://www.lowepro.com/us-en/protactic-sh-120-aw-lp36923-pww/

And as soon as you need a protection of your gear than you are happy that this bag is well padded - because protection works well with my Billingham Small! Nothing happens when you drop the bag from 1 m on the floor...... I'm not sure if a Canvas-bag with less padding can protect your gear like a Billingham Small!

Hi Thomas,

One example of this , you can look how small but can accomodate enough gear than hardley small pro, which bigger in size. Regretly it is sold out and discontinued. I think that about the concept and look somthing similar.

The Hadley Small/Small Pro models hold a lot of gear:

You might also look at the Domke F-6, but the padding is thinner which may translate to less protection:

My Hadley Pro is the most durable, flexible and useful bag I have ever owned. If I load it really light with say my em10 and a couple of lenses then it is slim and I am hardly aware of it and have some space left over. I have walked miles and miles with it like this with no fatigue or annoyance from it. On the other hand I can totally load it for travel with front pockets stuffed with headphones, kindle, P&S, mini tripod, mic, etc. 13" laptop in the back, travel docs and batteries in the rear zip pocket, EM10 and 5 lenses.

In fibre something (the artificial canvas material) it still looks brand new after two years hard use in the Zambian bush. I literally use it every day.

You can even pull out the padded interior "bag" and go shopping with it.

I am a huge fan. I run a safari lodge and have even had guests comment "nice bag" not knowing it is a camera bag. That will not happen with a Lowepro :-)

Jokes aside it is one of the most impressive photo related purchases I have ever made.

I'm grateful you posted. I managed to get salt stains on my Hadley Pro. Since then, I've kept it "for good" like my best suit. Neither get any use! I'll start using the Hadley Pro again. I work at construction sites daily.

Check out the Vanguard Havana 21.Doesn't look like a cam bag and offers decent protection while not being overly padded. Comes in Navy and Beige.

thanks, seem a very decent one.

There are a number of small canvas bag out there that just need a $12 insert from ebay to carry such a camera kit safely. I use the first model Tilley Intrepid (latest is leather, expensive and out of stock) and Filson has caught my eye as a possible replacement. But the Tilley doesn't wear and I carry it everywhere, for everything.
