I know RRS has a L bracket designed for Z7, but till now, it's still in the status of pre-order.

Any other recommendations so I can shoot in portrait mode without bending the ballhead. A specific built for Z7/Z6 one would be better.

I'm eager to stitch panorama image. ;-)

Kirk has one for sale but I haven’t used their products.

I have many Kirk products, there are as good as RRS, maybe not that "pretty"...

On the other hand, many other brands have sprung lately that are good enough for a bracket to hold a camera, be it worth $3K or $9k. The list is endless.

I will wait until these suppliers offer something at a price more reasonable than the ones above.

I’d like to be sure I’ll be able to put the FTZ adapter on without inference with the “L” bracket.

I agree, that's my concern. The tiny inexpensive Breakthrough photography Arca plates will suffice for a while, but I want to be able to use the FTZ too.

This one is readily available:

LNZ bracket

Thanks for starting the thread - I'll be interested to follow the replies. I have a generic camera plate I've been using so far, and it works OK for landscape/ horizontal orientation, but, of course, I then have to flip the ballhead to the side for portrait/ vertical orientation.

I noted on the Kirk Photo site that they explicitly state that the L-bracket for the camera cannot be used when using the FTZ if there is also a plate on the FTZ, and vice versa. So there will be a need to remove the camera plate when you use the FTZ adaptor on the tripod. But interestingly, they do make an L-bracket for the FTZ as well as the camera body.

Here you go,only 50 bucks

https://www.smallrig.com/smallrig-l-bracket-for-nikon-z6-and-nikon-z7-camera-2258.html
This looks like a very good deal, and the 5th image shows that it has a component that bolts on the base plate and provides a support shelf under the FTZ. I wonder if RRS will do the same? For a quarter the price of the RRS unit, I might just consider this.

I've purchased RRS L-plates for every camera I've owned, going back to the D70, but RRS has gotten ferociously expensive.

If you don't mind a "generic" solution, instead of something tailored for the Z7, this one may work:

Universal L-plate on Amazon

I don't have it, so this is not an endorsement. And it probably doesn't allow easy access to the camera side ports, but the price is right ($19.95 and free delivery for Prime members). It claims to work for the Sony a7riii and numerous DSLR's, so would probably work at least as an interim solution until the more customized plates are available.

Good find. I'll have to keep an eye on that one.

Interesting and I like the added grip for pinky support (Z7 has the same problem here as Sony cameras) but it looks like it might not solve the biggest problem which is changing from Z mount to F mount lenses without removing the L bracket. Same problem with the Kirk Enterprises brackets. I'm hoping RRS can do something creative but I'm not sure and they still don't have a design on their website.

Nice! I like the look of the grip extension...a place for my baby finger.

I just ordered it.

I think it would work, the base is thicker than normally exactly to avoid problems with the FTZ, isn't it? I just ordered one with both accessories.

You may be right I'm not sure. To attach the FTZ with the bracket on, the front of the bracket needs to be pretty flush with the camera.

If you can attach/detach the FTZ with the bracket on then I guess you could skip the FTZ support adapter for smaller/lighter lenses and you could switch between Z and F lenses without needing an allen wrench.

I sent them a message asking for clarification and I'll post their response if/when I get it.

As I said I bought the bracket with the 2 accessories that are mentioned in the description. I may not need them but for USD 80 I got everything shipped.

The "universals" I've seen will most certainly not work with the FTZ.

I also like the "pinky support". The base looks pretty flush with the front of the body...looks to me like it should work with the FTZ.
