What are the touch screen capabilities in 5Div and 6Dii?

My 5Dsr and 5Diii precede the touch screen on the series... I suspect that the mirror makes the features different than on my touch screen M5, but I wonder what the touch screen on the 5Div and 6Dii bring to the table.

Can you use the touch screen to drag autofocus while looking through the ovf? Can you use the touch screen to focus and shoot in live view? Can you use the touch screen to focus and shoot while looking through the ovf?

I won't buy another ff canon till the answers are all yes, but mirrorless may be required?

Thanks for clarifications

Most things except touch and drag.

Obviously not since you cannot see in the OVF where your finger is selecting on the touchscreen - this only works where the EVF mirrors the LCD.

You certainly can use the touchscreen to focus and focus and shoot whilst in LV.

I have never tried focus and shoot using the LCD while looking through the OVF, but I suspect you will not be able to see where you are focusing, so while it may work in theory (assuming the LCD doesn't turn off when you raise your eye to the OVF - which is likely), you won't be able to see where you are focusing.

Yes, it will, or a DSLR with a EVF, so that means that you are waiting a bit longer.
Thanks for clarifications

If you mean using the LCD like a touch pad then no.
Can you use the touch screen to focus and shoot in live view?
Yes, and you can turn the shooting part off so its just touch to focus.

No, the EVF is blacked out.

Yep, all the above is possible on the M50 (probably the M5 as well, i dont have that). You can also shoot movies while looking through the EVF and many more things you cant do on a traditional DSLR.
Thanks for clarifications

So actually, you can use the LCD to select a focus point while looking through the OVF. Its not very practical, but it is possible.

When you hit the AF point selection button while the screen is active (i.e. you just looked at the info screen or something) then a menu pops up on the screen that lets you pick a focus point (out of the pre-defined PDAF points). The screen doesnt auto shut off when you put your eye to the OVF, but it does go to sleep after however many seconds the related setting is at and hitting the AF selection button does not turn it back on (I think..). I could be wrong about one or two things here, need to test it on the camera after work to be sure.

Not sure why you would want to do this with the OVF up at your eye, easier to just use the joystick or wheels.

The OP already has a M5 (and is a regular poster in the M forum), and was referring to a FF I think.

And I answered the questions regarding the 5D4, which is a FF camera and one he asked about, but I was also comparing how basic even that is to a Mirrorless camera. I know he has a M5 as he said he did.

Not sure what your point is.

Thanks for the info!!!

I'd guess that we have the tech to do both OVF, and superimpose touchscreen activity within the view... but it requires getting info for focus to the sensor while seeing via the mirror... which may be just too expensive a proposition, and mean that giving up the OVF for mirrorless is just the obvious evolution.

Both have same sensitivity in screen. But the touch screen of the 5D Mark IV screen is still way better.
