BEWARE: it doesn't work with older cameras (e.g. 60D)

Luckily I tried it in the shop before buying it and I didn't buy it online.

The autofocus does not work with my 60D. Pretty weird and unexpected as his sibling, the 40mm pancake works fine.

I don't know if this can occur to other STM newer lenses, please share your findings.

As per Canon, every lens is guaranteed to work with every body past, present or future. if your experience is different, chances are there is a malfunction somewhere

Then something is wrong with the lens you tried or your 60D. It works on both my 40D and 300D without a single issue. Are you sure you had the focus switch in AF position?
Thank you for your input. It could well be my camera needs a firmware update then.

To clarify: I have explicitly avoided explaining we have tried the lens on other cameras and the manual switch was set to AF.

Works perfectly with my 30D.

This guarantee is only for EF lenses, not EF-S. That being said, newer STM lenses still should work on the 60D. I have a 10-18mm IS STM that has no problems.

Something's wrong, either with the lens or your camera. That lens works fine on a 60d..

I agree with the others; it is shown that the lens works on even older bodies so there's no reason it won't work on the 60D. There is a mechanical or electrical problem with either the lens or that body. This isn't a review so much as a troubleshooting problem.

This does not answer your specific question, but I went from the FD system to the EOS in the early '90's. I have the original EF designs of the 50/1.8, 100 macro and 24 tilt&shift purchased in the mid-90's. They all properly function with my 5D Mark IV, though their analog designs may not give the best results with my digital body. I don't use these enough to justify trading up to newer versions.

The only lens I have that doesn't work on the 5D IV, or on a Mark III, is a Sigma 400/5.6 APO macro HSM. It focuses, but (usually though not always) does not allow the shutter to fire, giving an "ERR 01" message. Still works on the A2 film body. FWIW.

EF lenses are guaranteed to work on any Canon dSLR ever made. EF-S lenses are not. That being said, I am pretty sure all EF-S mount lenses work on all crop cameras to date. I think there is something wrong with the OP's lens.

Crop cameras released before the digital rebel such as the D30, D60 and 10D for instance are 1.6 cropped cameras but only take EF lenses.

This does not, however, apply in the OP's case. It is a 60D which is 100% compatible with EF-S lenses. As has been said more than once in this thread, there's obviously a problem with either the lens or the body but it is not a compatibility issue.

Exactly, I was just pointing out the trivial fact about the older bodies of which the 60D isn’t old as suggested in the OP
