Got me a brand new Olympus Pen F in black exactly a week back and I couldn’t be happier! Learning all its nuances from whatever info I can get on the web- discussion forums, blogs and YT vdo tutorials (Rob Trek series are great!)

I also got the FITTEST quick release L-shaped bracket hand grip which is a chinese copy of the Reallyrightstuff grip for just 18$! Have paired the Pen F with a Panny 20mm 1.7 prime and having a lotta fun messing with this combo!

...and here it is!

It ruins the appearance of the beautiful body IMHO.

I totally agree. Even at the risk of being called a "Panasonic fan-boy" (which at 62, I wouldn't mind so much) I have the notion that a lot (most?) of Pen-F owners, and for that matter, a lot of EM5/10 owners as well, opt for an accessory grip. Now, what does that tell us? Perhaps the shape and size appeals in the shop / online but once handled, it needs a crutch? For me the GX8 is fine as it is, as was the smallish G3 before it.

The base is OK, but the grip kills it entirely.

Why not just post the photo/s here?

nice grip though isn't it?

Many had suggested I get the RRS grip the whole package was 180$ online (YIKES!) several suggested the Gariz leather half case another 100$ + purchase. Now the FITTEST brand only cost me 18$. I like its ergonomics and looks quite a lot and it feels very sturdy and solid plus protects the camera body on all three sides. The battery compartment opening had no issues either so it was a no-brainer!

not necessarily. I think Olympus designed these cameras for smaller lightweight lenses, but they made a grip too Aso that those of us who don’t/won’t use it as it may have been primarily designed for will still have a very nice and also easy to hold camera. I like the ECG-4 grip on mine, I liked the ECG-1 on my E-M10.

I could have just picked up the 12/2, 25/1.8, 45/1.8 and swapped lenses as needed and had a great little kit that had near 0 need for a grip. Instead I went with a PL12-60 that is bigger and heavier than all three of those primes combined (still doesn’t weigh that much to me). So the grip isn’t a crutch it’s just an over priced tool that I like and was willing to pay for.

I got this grip from a friend coming in from China. He bought it for me online at aliexpress.com for only 18$. Its a copy of the Really Right Stuff grip which costs a whooping 180$!

It's not really a 'copy' of the RRS grip, as there will be differences that ensure that RSS can't sue them for copyright infringement. RRS can't copyright a grip as it's prior art, else they could sue every manufacturer, even Olympus, for making a grip for their camera/s. It's the same reason why they can't sue others for making camera plates, ball heads, tripods etc.

But yes, RRS gear is way overpriced for anyone outside the US. With the exchange rate and exhorbitant shipping costs (nearly as much as the cost of a plate), anything out of China is a better option. I'm waiting for a camera plate for my E-M1 MkII and don't understand why it's taking so long.

I can't come to grips with that. A finely designed camera is put in a cage to peer out from behind the bars like a forlorn tiger.

Otherwise it is not necessary and actually detracts from the aesthetics of the camera IMO.

I always wonder why buy an M4/3 camera and make it bulkier...I would have bought a FF instead.
