Anyone know how to update the firmware on a Godox using a Mac?

I just wrote up more than you could ever want to know about how to upgrade firmware on a Godox flash/trigger (including how to do it on a Mac), here:

Basically, you still need to run Windows, but you can use a free virtual machine: VirtualBox + developer Windows(see this youtube video); a Bootcamp partition with a Windows licence; or a cheap Windows tablet.

You can't use Wine via WineBottler, because they can't handle a custom USB driver, which the Godox update applications require.

Thanks!

Here is a link showing what you need to do to download Virtual Box and the Virtual Machine. It will take about 5 or 6 gb of space on your drive to do this and the Virtual Box is only good for 90 days.

Hope this helps. Mike

Just as an FYI . After I found the Virtual Box and VM download for updating Godox firmware on my MAC and downloaded it all (about 5 gb), when I tried to do anything wit all I got was the spinning beachball of death. Tried this several times and finally gave up. Going to just use my wife's older windows laptop and do it all there Plus, will wait for Godox / Adorama to release the Mac version that is supposedly being worked on. I would not think out to be too difficult to come up with that, myself.

Did you extract the .ova virtual machine file with Unarchiver like the Microsoft page instructed before you loaded it? Or did you just try to unzip the .zip file by double-clicking and end up with another archive?

I'm on a 2012 MacbookPro with 8GB memory running on El Capitan. I didn't have any problems importing the .ova for the Edge on 64-bit Windows 10 VM and booting up into Windows 10 on VirtualBox.

Honestly, Kli, I'd have to go back and try reinstalling this as I do not recall seeing anything about a .ova unarchiver file when I downloaded the Microsoft VM file. I'll try that again and look specifically for that. Thanks, Mike

It took me a while to suss it out, since it was kind of hidden on that MS VS page, and I only noticed when I double-clicked and OSX told me it was compressing the archive again... :)

It does take a while, though. I think it was about 5-10 minutes to extract the .ova file, and then about 10 minutes to open/import the .ova in VirtualBox. The performance is surprisingly good.

I also noticed, weirdly, that MS Edge turned some of the .rar files from the Godox download page into .man files, so I had to rename them, before I could install the G1 and G2 updaters. The USB drivers seemed to install correctly.

...and then I couldn't get my TT685C to connect. Then again, it's already been updated.

There are reasons I use BootCamp and just boot into Windows 10. [facepalm].
