Can I transfer RAW files over Wi-Fi?

For Android an free app called Canon camera & control from the play store will let you view and transfer raw files to your phone.

PC is no problem, press the wifi button and let er go.
are you sure about that? I used those apps but what actually gets transferred is the small jpg embedded in the RAW file.
I use M3 and shoot in RAW only. I use Canon Camera Connect to transfer the photos to my Iphone. Each RAW file would be converted to a smaller JPG file about 1M. I also notice that there would be a small color difference between DPP converted JPG and the CCC converted JPG, especially the photos with backlight.

The RAW files would not be transferred to the Iphone.

The software I listed does transfer raw. I've tested it. It's not the Canon one, it's a third party one.

Camera connect and control it's called. Name auto corrected wrong

Once again : Yes, you can!!!..;-)

if it were impossible, Canon would state it as limitation.

When I travel, I use my iPad and/or iPhone to back-up.

Previously I used to do it via a SD-Lightning-adapter, but now I do it mostly per WiFi + Camera Connect app. Transfer times are not so bad: the other day it took me less than 10min to transfer about 6GB of RAW files from the M6 to the iPad Pro. With the iPhone it's a bit slower, but remains very acceptable.
Sorry, I should have come back earlier in order to correct my post.

The thing is I did several transfers via WiFi, but I didn't get them to my iMac right away. I sorted out my pictures on iPad und iPhone thinking they were RAW files. But when I wanted to transfer them to iMac, I saw what I saw: there where only JPEG files...

So now (like before actually..;-)) I use the SD-Lightning-adapter again, because there is no other way to transfer your RAW files to un iDevice... unless you are willing to pay for Cascable.

I just don't understand one thing: if a third party app can do it, why the official Canon app can't???

Hello,

Can I transfer RAW files over Wi-Fi directly from the camera to my iPhone using Canon Camera Connect app? Or is it for JPG files only?

Thanks!
Hi Yoons,

As long as I know, all Canon camera only set to send JPG files to the iphone.

I always shoot RAW and JPG medium, because when it transferred to my iphone, it will automatically transfer the JPG file (and not the RAW file).

By transferring the JPG, we transfer the files that has already processed in the camera as we set it, ie; sharpness, color saturation, lens aberration correction, etc.
So the JPG files is for immediate share purpose with minor adjustment in iphone.

If we really need to transferring RAW files, i think ios SD card reader is the best way for iphone, since using wifi will be spend some more time.

Best regards,
Peter

I don't think any app can transfer raw Canon files. The other poster said he used another app then corrected and said it was the "Canon Connect" app but that only transfers the small jpg file even though it says the raw file transferred.

For the last time, the ios app Casale Pro can transfer RAW files over Wi-Fi. You just need to pay for it.

for the last time I can't find 'Casale Pro' or any other app on a cell phone or tablet that transfers raw files

(but it probably won't the last time I respond to this thread )

Sorry, it's Cascable and it's for iOS. You need the pro version to download Raw.

So are we saying there's no direct wireless way to get a raw from a canon to an android?

What are the alternative non-computer options? OTG cable?

I have the M6. Is there a direct bluetooth way without using the app? Just for select images (i.e 1 a day, when on the road)

Doesn’t work for me. If I attempt to transfer raw files from my 80D to my iPad Pro via Canon Connect they get converted to jpgs.

The app called camera connect and control from the play store will transfer raw over wifi. Costs a few bucks for the pro version but works.

The frustrating part of the Camera Connect app by Canon is that it is NOT useful when shooting RAW.

IF you shoot RAW, you ONLY can transfer a small version of the JPG. There is no option for "Convert RAW to JPEG with max quality, reduced quality, etc".

You only get the smallest files available. I.E. a 400kb file on my 30Megapixel Canon 5DMarkIV. (I'm assuming this is just the embedded JPG that is transferring over from the RAW file)

Now if you shoot JPG, you can transfer the entire jpg file, for example a 8MB jpg.

If you shoot Raw + JPG to separate cards as I do (RAW to CF, JPEG to SD), you need to make sure you select the JPG source if you want to transfer the full resolution JPG to the phone.

If you only shoot RAW, you need to make sure you convert RAW to JPEG in camera FIRST before transferring to your phone, if you want the full sized JPEG.

The big problem for me is that I would love to use all the features of LightroomCC mobile direct from my iPhone. I also would like to work on the RAW file inside LightroomCC mobile because I can do more with it (and then export directly to jpg from my mobile phone for Instagram, etc). If I start working from the RAW file, then I can pick up where I left off on my PC, without starting over. But now I can only work from the JPEG.

Sure you can use a sync cable, sure you can connect to your computer, but that is NOT wireless. Canon really needs to update the app so that it can transfer RAW files over directly.

Alternatively, LightroomCC could update their app to connect directly to the Camera.

I DO want to use the Wifi functions for RAW and don't think we should have to buy a 3rd party app to do it.

I'll probably just suck it up though and pay $30 for the Cascable app and give it a go. Just wish I didn't have to :)
