I now have DxO PhotoLab v1.0.2 Build 2587. It fixes some bugs, notably one in which older sidecar files were being corrupted (seemingly those from OP9 and below) and also corrupting the PL database entries for that image, to the point that the image would not display. (This is what was fixed for me.)

Just so you know. I'm sure everyone was waiting eagerly for the news. ;-)

Good to know that's fixed. I did see an incompatibility with the first PL release, but I fixed it by deleting the database. As far as I can tell, as long as OP/PL is set to save and read the sidecar .dop files, the database seems unnecessary.

Hmm, when I check for updates from my 1.0.1 version it says it's up to date. I will try to download the update manually.

I checked my v1.0.1 for updates and it told me I was up to date.

However, I went to the DxO site, downloaded the current offering and it installed as v1.0.2. I haven't noticed any differences, but then I don't use the .dop files anyway.

This must be a Windows only issue. My Mac version is 1.0.1 53, and so are the downloads from either the demo or support links...

Same here. I downloaded the current trial version and it installed as 1.0.2.

V1.0.2 also fixed an issue where copying an entire directory from one computer to another resulted in Optics Pro/PhotoLab not loading the sidecar files when run on the 2nd computer.

This has been replaced by a more official release: v1.0.2-2600.

New features of DxO PhotoLab v1.0.2 Hotfix
  • Fixing a bug related to DxO OpticsPro 8/9 settings migration.
  • Fixing a bug in processing some images, when local adjustment brush is used as a correction.
  • Minor bug fixes.
It has the usual link to more info at the bottom, but of course there is no more info. They need to fix that.

Thanks, Shane.

A related fix in 1.0.2 is that older virtual copies (pre-O.P.11) that PhotoLab couldn't open now open OK.

Quick question:

Has anyone found a way to get u-point automasking to work. Even a white ball on a black carpet produces a glow overwash outside the margins. Worked better in NIK- Will this need to wait for a "point release" ??

It often requires a fair bit of user control, including negative (-) control points. If Nik works better, I think you should submit a support request to DxO to have your test case looked at. They need such information in order to make improvements.

I'm already getting sick of the bugs in this.

I loved Optics Pro but so far I've had problems with PL in acquiring images, opening them and now I can't delete images from a folder using PL.

They have released this programme prematurely without adequate development work imo.

I found that renaming or deleting PL's database (which I don't use) solved my problems with the original PL release; if you've been saving the sidecar .dop files, that might be worth trying.

I've seen posts suggesting that the most recent PL version fixes bugs, but I've not had to do much processing since installing it.

Thanks, I may give that a try. In the mean time I've decided to keep using Optics Pro as my main processor and just use PL when I need to make PL-specific adjustments to some images, and wait until PL is sorted out.

Just remember, each newer version of OP (and now PL) updates the sidecar (.dop) files to its version level, even if you don't make any changes to the image, if the directory has been visited by it.

I have not tried going downlevel, so I don't know if the sidecar files remain readable and usable by older versions after a newer version has modified it. I suspect maybe not so much. Or maybe it is rebuilt, and the components needed by the newer version are lost. I don't know.

Of course, if you maintain strict separation of your directories this may not be a problem for you.

As an added aside: If you look at the sidecar files with a text reader like Wordpad (Notepad expects CR-LF line endings, not just LF, so don't use that) you can read the settings stored there. Interestingly, the "Version" setting for PL is "12.0".

RGB WhiteBalance still has lost all its switches. Going back to in-camera requires un-dos, which is a pain if other adjustments have been made too. I do not understand why they dropped it in 1.01 and are shy fixing it - they do not even acknowledge the bug report - frightening.
