some new portraits,,,,

Hello Jono, :)))

you can come for tee no problem..... take the plane and come to spain....

no I never tried to convert with the channel mixer...... will try it!
Thank you....

Stefan
I looked at some other threads and twigged that you were using the
D100 - at the risk of "teaching my grandmother to suck eggs"
Have you tried using the channel mixer to convert to black and
white? - I've found it really useful as you can choose which
channel to convert on.

OTOH your shots are just great.

kind regards
jono
thank you very much for your nice comment!

these are all made with the Nikon D100... I convert them in PS

1. greyscale
2. unsharp maskening
3. contrast

best regrads Stefan
Actually, I'm not just jealous of your photographs, I'm also
jealous of your friends, who look like great people.

What do you shoot with?

kind regards

I like the photos a lot. They really do look good. I always find it hard to get a good black and white image from digital. Could you be a little more specific as to what you did to create the images in PS?

Hi Stefan

I'm off to Crete on Monday, so I won't come to tea this month . . . . but next month, definitely (as long as you ask all those funky looking friends of yours!).

kind regards

p.s. you'll enjoy the channel mixer, it gives you much more control

Hello Genesm,

the people in front of the camera are more im portant than the
fotographer, they have to recive a possitve feeling from the
fotographer, they have to feel sure and relaexed....if this works
you get nice and intersting work, they are happy and the
fotographer is happy......
Photography means to me: People and their character, deepness,
honesty ... showing life. Faces telling stories ... photographed
with respect - and from my point of view.

Thank you for your very interesting comment!

thats me, :) yes...I called this series "familie" if you look at
the first 4 shots you see allways the mother and our children, seh
ist allways behind in the background, protecting the children, she
is mother, lover, she is center of the familie,,,, I was thinking
how I can give her more attention, she got it! she made the last
familie shot. :))

I love square format, and most of the time I plan the shot allready
through the Nikon lens......
BUT! I just bought a 6x6 :)) we will see.............................

I am, Italian/German, lived 25 years in Germany, since 15 I live in
Spain (Ibiza)

Thank you again, best regards Stefan

P.S. I will take a look at your http://www .

P.P.S. in some days I will have a new http://www ............

It's very interesting. For the first time I see someone who is focused. I mean I saw lots of interesting photographs before. But here is very simple topic. Family, friends, co-workers, people at their job and etc. I mean, pretty much everyone who have camera does it or did it, but noone is focused though. Noone do it so beautiful. I'll try to find out how to make people trust and relax. I guess it would be easyer with people who knows me.

Good luck my friend.

Stefan,

Not only did your work prove to me that the D100 is capable of capturing photos comparable to 35mm film, but you inspire me with every shot. I truely love your work, please post more often...

On a technical note, would you be willing to post one of these images pre-photoshop? I would love to see the raw image from camera before you convert to black and white. I understand if you'd rather not show the image in a way it wasn't meant to be viewed, but I think a lot of us would learn from such an exercise. I'd also like to know if you shot any of these with filters, and any other technical data you'd like to share.

Hello Michael,

I convert them in PS

1. greyscale
2. unsharp maskening
3. contrast

there are no numbers, every shot is diferent..... my eyes decide in PS

Hello Jesse,

I made prints in 45x30cm, perfect! only very good eyes can see that they are not analog......

there are no bigger secrets, believe me :)))

I convert them in PS

1. greyscale
2. unsharp maskening
3. contrast

sometimes I light up darker parts with PS..... thats all....

no filter, nothing.... my eyes decide each shot again....playing around until I think its OK....

best regards Stefan
