Congratulation. I´m sure you will be happy with your new camera.
I´m quite happy with my E20. E1 is probably better on most parts so it should be a VERY GOOD CAMERA.

I love my E20 also despite its shortcomings, but one can hardly make claims of "superb' picture quality without having tested it first. Besides, The Matrix was a great flic and the sequal sucked---and it used most of the same actors and storyline. For that matter, the 1970 mustang was hardly worthy to succeed the 69 classic...etc etc..

I agree with Frank, I got my E10 just a week ago, i am no Pro nor I need all the pro specs of the pro SLR's out there... my E10 is more than I realy need! that said, it would actually be nice to know how many of us (in this SLR forum) are pros or make a living out of taking pictures...

Cheers

When the E-10 came out, I think it could have been justified as a pro level camera. The E-20 was too little too late and a bit disappointment compared to the E-10.

I am hopeful about the E-1 but see no reason to purchase it over any other dSLR on the market. What I see mostly is hype without substance.

Well for me just the form factor and the seams to be build quality of the olympus cameras Om 2,1,OM10e,,, is nearly enough to convince me of getting the E1 over the other cameras on the market (I have a price range to consider. I would not go for the most expensive one). I have had

1st camera Olympus Om2
2cnd Canon eos 1000
3d Nikon Nikkormat FT3,,, Nikon F2AS,SB,Nikkormat EL,,,

It would be most practical for me to buy a S2pro or the D100 because I already have a few good lenses for that system.

But the S2pro and most of the other SLR out there are a little more clumsy and heavy than the E1 and it alone makes me consider if I should change over to the more compact E1 system.

If any of you have ever vent hiking for lets say 10 to 14 hours with your photo gear you must understand what I´m talking about.

For me the Olympus E20 is the most pleasurable to work with and just from pictures of it the E1 body seams to be as pleasurable with an extra quality ccd added to it and a oppertunity to add some good quality lenses. So I´m just considering it very seriously.

I hope you plan on sticking around here after you get it and letting us all know how you like it.

HI Trent

I have one on order as well - I figure that supply will be short (it always is), so if it really turns out to be a disappointment then I can get most of my money back on ebay.

But the shots I've seen have the Olympus colour (which I love), I've never really been that bothered by noise, and the form factor and build quality is mouth watering.

I too do a lot of walking, carry my camera always, and would like something serious which won't break my back. (I've been carrying around a D1X with big lenses for a year or so, and although it produces fine results, it's tough to carry.

kind regards
jono

Pro is a funny word - it's used to cover almost everything nowadays.

But I walk as well, and I want something small and tough to take with me - I don't shoot sport, and I love Olympus colour (which is more important to me than noise or resolution.)

We can compare notes (in October?).

Hey Jono

I will be interested in seeing the results you get knowing your style and ability. What lenses will you get to start?
I think I'm going to wait a bit longer eventhough I want a new cam BAD.

Hi Will
How the devil are you!

I hope I'll be having some fun with it at least!

I'm going for the 'cheapos'

I'll start with the two zooms, and see what they're like, and then get the wide angle when it appears. I haven't decided about the macro yet, but I definitely won't be going for that 300mm (can't afford it, and don't want to carry it!).

Kind Regards

I am very interested in this system too. However I'm not as bold as you. I'll wait while you all do my field testing for me. Good luck and keep us informed.

I look forward to reading what you think. I also look forward to seeing some of your images on the Oly SLR forum again.

I think I read Jukka is planning on getting one also so there should be a few of you E-10 and former E-10 owners with a new E-1 hanking out here.
