So, the last thread about E-M1.2 defects appears to be full. I'm hoping to get more feedback about my questions below:

I just received my new E-M1.2 from B&H using the latest trade-in promotion. So far it's proven to be a nice camera. It certainly doesn't wow me considering I have an E-M5 & E-M1; but is still a nice upgrade.

Unfortunately I've noticed my SD card slot door to be somewhat loose. I can manipulate it with minimal effort by the palm of my hand. I suspect this is what others have complained about on this thread. I believe this "play" could compromise the weathersealing.

Generally speaking I have a problem with a purchase this expensive not being perfect.

So my question is, should I return this for another E-M1.2 until I find one with a correct SD card slot door?

Or, is this a design issue and hasn't/won't be "fixed" and I should just accept it?

Thanks, Jeff

Mine was the same from brand new - purchased December. It does not seem to have worsened much despite the fact that my most used lens weighs 3.2Kg, requiring a very firm grip.

If you examine the weather seal you'll see that it's located close-in around the SD slots and is not compromised by the movement.

Of more concern are the tiny plastic lock tabs on the door. The tabs flex and then click into sockets as you press the door into the locked position. Frequent movement with the door under pressure is likely to be fatiguing and wearing the tabs and their sockets.

I've had to replace the doors on 2 of my oldest Olympus DSLRs (E-300 and E-330) when the door tabs broke off. Since then I have got into the habit of leaving the card door open (all cameras) when I've taken out a card to read it, halving the number of card door open/close cycles.

Has anyone replaced their camera and received a door different than what I'm describing?

Has Olympus fixed anyone's camera?

Good advice... I do the same!

It seems to be a consistent "issue". Oly might modify it in later production runs as it is commonly criticised and is the one thing that feels "cheap" in the design. I was a bit bothered at first but have got used to it and it has not got worse furtunately.

I have two Olympus DSLRs (E510, E5) and three mFTs (E-M10.1, E-M1.1, E-M1.2) and all have similar doors and none have ever failed. I do use cameras very frequently (I have over 300,000 exposures on the E-M1.2) and have used the weather sealed ones in all types of weather and have never had a door failure or and problem with moisture.

It is not an issue. It was designed this way. The actual seal is underneath. At least the door is not stiff to open.

I got my MkII a few months ago and the SD card door is as tight as a Scotsman's purse.

Mine is loose and it really annoys me.

Might call Olympus tomorrow and find out about it.

The "loose" door is o.k. The cards are savely covered. No problem after close to one year in heavy use. Just get used to it.

Purchased my M1.2 last June. Slot door is tight when closed, yet easy to open and close.
