thanks Danny,
I thought as much and I guess this goes to partially answer the question regarding the 300 F4 Pro and 1.4x. At 420mm F5.6 it just sneaks in, but you'd prefer F2.8 x 1.4 giving you that extra ISO margin.

I feel the same shooting with the Zuiko and Canon 300mm/2.8s. Super bright on their own, more than fast enough with the 1.4x and still OK with the 2x

Great catch of the Cormorant !

The weather over here has been excellent for birding but a change is coming right on time for winter.

cheers

Peter

Yeah its darn cold here mate :-) Tell you what I use now, is a heated jacket Pete. I use Dewalt batteries for the tools at work, so had two of their heated jackets for over a year now :-) Hey, I'm a big wuss these days Pete :-) Keeps me warm when out in the cold shooting like today.

Yeah it's a bit hard to get through to certain people that a 300 F/4 might well be superb, but there's no point if you already have a superb 300 F/2.8 :-) Today that F/2.8 made all the difference.

If I had the 1.4x TC on that lens today, those shots I posted wouldn't exist at that distance and ISO along with shutter speed. Those Canon 300 F/2.8's are a marvel Pete, they always have been. Chris a mate of mine shoots with the 400 F/2.8L. Another fantastic lens ..... but so is the cost !!

Anyway, all the best Pete.

Danny.

150mm f/2.8 would be interesting.
Panasonic had this under development then canned it. Some speculate that the Oly 40150PRO was the reason.

I think it would succeed with OIS and a compact design that telescopes down when camera turned off.

I'd forgotten mu disappointment about that!

The marketing people probably think the 150mm niche is already filled.

I'd want a 150mm prime as a light, compact, cheaper alternative to the 40/150 f/2.8. So I'd be happy to rely only on IBIS, and a mechanically simple design would keep cost (and weight) down. That's my way of saying that I would not think it important to have a telescoping design. But a slide-out lens hood would be good. (I think my old Zuiko 135mm f/2.8 has one.)

Would you be interested in longer primes for the MFT system?
While I understand the appeal of zooms, it seems to me that esp for MFT many of us are prime shooters. There are some great MFT primes on the market for us between Oly, Pan and Sigma. The longer end however is pretty wide open. We have almost too many choices in the 20-45mm range, but only one in 75 and none above.
What would entice you to buy?
If we are going to dream and wish then lets ask for longer primes building on the wonderful 75F1.8....

150 F1.8

200 F1.8

both to be the sports / low light primes that provide the near DOF experience and field of view of the legendary 300 and 400 F2.8 Canon primes.

If Olympus is even vaguely serious about the pro sports credentials of the EM1Mk2 and the system in general these are nearly mandatory lenses

I love primes, but they have to add something when compared to the f/2.8 zooms.

So for me longer than 135 mm and faster than f2.8 else I will just use the zoom, the construction doesn't have to be pro-grade. Pana 25 mm f/1.7 or oly 45 mm f/1.8 quality will do for me.

Just give me a plastic-fantastic affordable long and fast autofocus prime.

They are extreme specialty lenses, only used for... who knows?

Hmm, my first instinct was gonna be to vote for the 100/120 f2.8 macro, and I'm gonna guess that would still be the biggest seller (if it's a macro)... Not sure I'd really add that to my kit in addition to the 35-100 f2.8 tho. I think that's a likely story with a lot of potential tele primes for M4/3, either they're gonna be beasts after a niche market or they're gonna get overlooked in favor of the fast zooms.

So I voted for the 200/2.8, that would at least fill a hole between the 75/1.8 or the f2.8 zooms and the 300/4, so it's less likely to get overlooked... It might just entice me, dunno, the upcoming PL50-200 f2.8-4 sounds intriguing too.

That would be interesting, are there any primes out there in any system with a collapsible design?

I would love to see a 9 mm f1.7 prime by Panasonic. In line IQ wise and size wise (if possible) to their 15, 20 and 42,5 mm f1.7.
I wouldn't mind that, as long as we're OT... 17 f1.4 w/sealing please!

120mm f/2.8 dual-stabilized macro for outdoor work would be fantastic :-D

Long macros are not just about reach, it is also about having a narrow FOV to control busy background. I used to use a Sigma 150 f/2.8 macro with their 1.4x TC, attached to my Nikon D300, 90% of the time and loved it.

I would of loved a 350mm f4. Odd but that would be my perfect focal length for most my shooting. Next best thing to that i need i have it already (300mm f4)

A 500mm f4 would be nice to have too.

Lots of Candy there but how much would all that cost ;-)
