Your off to a good start. The Canon 55-250mm STM lens can do well in low light. I'm still using my older Canon 55-250mm IS lens in cloudy weather as seen with the pretty dancers above. I used it for a couple years for wildlife until I got the Tamron 150-600mm lens.

Much to my surprise, the autofocus worked. Not bad for a lens from the film days. I think I'll keep working with it from time to time. It seems reasonably sharp. The picture looks good on my monitor. Did the autofocus work with the old lens or did you have to manual focus it?
Those are remarkably nice...great job!!! A shelter is a great place to take pictures of birds in the rain. I carry with me a big umbrella for those kinds of pictures, but it takes a while before the birds get used to seeing it. It also takes strength and patience to manage that big lens and umbrella together. I've only done it a few times when I'm determined to take pictures in our rainy climate.

these are the best out of 969 shots lol. My 600d struggled with the 400-800 iso when the light was bad. When I grow up, I want to shots like these too!
Thanks Mocha123, yeah that's my favorite shot. Only saw the raindrops once I got home. I need to get a new body that can handle higher ISO so I can get the shutter speed up as we took loads of bathing birds etc but they are to blurry and lots of noise in most of the shots. Don't think shooting through glass helped either.Hi Clive50,
Great shots of the Jay, the first shot of the Jay with the raindrops is remarkable, especially considering Sharp at 1/15 sec.(273mm).
