Here are a few shots of our resident Screech Owl, 'Harriet", and our new boxer puppy, 'BJ' -- just to break the monotony of equivalence bickering. :-)

'Harriet' is either sitting on eggs or tending to just-hatched chicks -- we're not sure which yet, but she make random cameo appearances in the opening of her owl box to watch us and our boxer in the back yard. She's really a very pretty little owl.

And what can I say about 'BJ' --he's all puppy.

Thanks Greg, great to see. We like all birds and it must be great to have such a resident.

Love the young boxer, wonderful mates. We had our boxer from a pup for 5.5 wonderful years before he succumbed to bone cancer. It took me ages to get over the loss as he was my friend. I was lucky being able to take him to work with me every day and it felt like he and I were joined at the hip. Having felt his loss at such at such an early stage in his life I couldn't cope with getting another so just share my wife cats.

There are dogs and there are boxers.

Thanks for sharing. Ours had 'wardrobe' history which made him very attractive, but aren't they all :-)

He liked travelling on open air trains? Old 35mm slide copied in Nikon Coolscan IV so not too good.

I like the owl playing peek a boo, but love little BJ :-)

Wow, he was a really good looking pup! He looked a bit like BJ might look like when he is grown. Sorry you lost him so early. :-(

Two years ago, we lost our beloved 'Buddy' (below) at 10 years to congestive heart failure, and not a day goes by that we don't miss him. He and our sweet girl Haily were inseparable -- it was really hard on all of us when he died. But I have to be thankful for the 10 wonderful years of laughter and silliness we were blessed with while we had him. Haily is 11 yrs. old now, and is in amazingly good shape, although she has slowed down a lot -- BJ has brought out a bit of pup-like energy in her though. The other day she took off running around the yard with him faster than I have seen her run in a long time.

By the way, we used to affectionately call Buddy, 'Bubba' (as well as 'Boo-Boo'), and we decided to name our new pup 'BJ' for 'Bubba Junior'. Based on all the laughter he's bringing us, I'd say we named him correctly. :-)

Anyone who has not owned a boxer has no idea what they are missing.

'Buddy' about two months before we said goodbye:

Love your screech owl and I was wondering if Harriet ever screeches. My first experience with a screech owl was one summer (many, many years ago) while serving as the archery instructor at a Boy Scout camp. As I returned alone at dusk from the range with a load of archery gear an owl let out a scream that turned my blood to ice water and I dropped everything I was carrying. I felt a bit foolish later when I discovered what tiny creatures they are.

Sucker for puppies too!

Thank you for the comment.

Actually, the Eastern Screech Owl mostly has a pleasant sounding 'trill' call -- almost like a soft horse whinny. They do make a screech type sound if agitated or defending fledglings -- maybe that's what you heard.

It's interesting that you were an archery instructor. I used to be heavily involved in outdoor field archery, and once put on an archery demonstration at a local Boy Scout camp near Austin. I still have my old 'Bear Kodiak Special' recurve bow, arrows, and quiver in my closet! :-) Archery is a very fun sport.

P.S. I love your artwork -- really excellent work! Also, by coincidence your name DeWitt was my father's first name! It's a small, small world after all. :-)

great shots love the boxers and the detail in the screech owls face, eyes ,and the boxers always look best with a docked tail ,something the uk does not allow

I could not agree more. Even people afraid of dogs got to know and love our boxer. His Kennel Club name was "Barnaby The Chilwellian" (we live in a village called Chilwell :-) ) but we, and everyone else knew him as Barny. Children would knock on our door asking "is Barny the Boxer coming out to play please?" So with those we trusted at being safe with him, he was a heavy solid lad, raced around our garden with him, playing hide and seek.
'Buddy' about two months before we said goodbye:
So good that you enjoyed each other's company to the end.

Not a great archer here, but they were desperate; thus I became the youngest staff member at the camp. Perhaps those 13 year old ears (alone in the N. Florida boondocks) explains why the screech scare the bejeebers out of me.

Thanks for the kind remarks regarding my artwork. The "DeWitt" is a middle name that looks so much better on a painting than "Bob Smith" :)

Small world indeed.

Wonderful! I reckon you just sold another bazillion users on the E-M1+Leica 100-400 combo! Lovely technically as well as being a great pic (although I would crop just a little off the right side).

Chuckled at the boxer pix. These wrinkles are not unlike my younger bro, who is in his 70s and as fit as a fiddle. I'm older but fatter, so wrinkles aren't a big issue! LOL!
