I see that a lot of people selling 70-200mm F4 in FB, Ebay, and more. Any ideas why?

Btw, are there any sample portrait images with 70-200mm F4 recently especially at 200mm F4?

They want the GM?

I don't know of any. 200mm is a bit long for portraits. I don't see a problem for that use, though (if that's what floats your boat), since the corners aren't usually important, and customers (or subjects) tend not to pixel-peep portraits.

Portrait at 200mm. I wouldn't try and draw inferences from what others are doing with their lenses. This is a fine optic and very versatile.

Don't buy FE 70-200 F4,Canon 70-200 f2.8 Non IS + MC-11 is very good in low light and perfect in outside.Large aperture more convenient. :-)

The more I shoot with the GM 70-200 f2.8, the more that I find I miss my old G 70-200 f4.

The 70-200 f4 is quite light in comparison to the GM, as well as adapted canon lenses that tend to be built like tanks but have a weight penalty associated with that.

The OSS and IBIS combined with the G 70-200 works very well when you're pushing your SS. I've gotten sharp shots at 1/50 of a second at 200mm with my old G 70-200 f4.

I say don't get an f/2.8 70-200 unless you need the wide aperture. I have the Sony 70-200/4 and I use it on an a7RII. I also have the (IMHO, great) new Nikon 70-200/2.8 and I use it on my D5. Different lenses for different purposes. It's nice to have a light, easy to handle lens like the Sony f/4 one in many circumstances.

For the size, weight and price the SEL70200g is a great lens. Compare the size of the gm version or other canon or Nikon lenses and it's half the weight and size. For portraits I tend to prefer an 85mm or 135mm focal length, but for events where I know the extra reach is needed I often take the SEL70200g too.

Examples of my photos with this lens can be found here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/mattrkeyworth/albums/72157652724239834

The images on the above links are not very sharp. What do you think of them?

That's because the photos aren't available on Flickr in the highest resolution....and no I'm afraid I'm not going to post full size images here.

I can assure you the majority of the images are sharp though.....

Any lens can be used for portrait, but the 70-200 is never my first choice for portrait.

I have multiple 70-200 F4 from different manufactures as I shoot multiple systems, but they are mostly used for landscape during hiking trips, they are all small and light, really easy to hike with. I don't even use them for event, too slow, I prefer to use my 2.8 version for event shooting,

I always use fast primes for portrait, for its fast wide open aperture, meaning DOF control, even F2.8 is way too slow and I am not going to deal with a F4, more importantly, they normally have much nice bokeh which I don't find it in the slow zoom.

Now that's a great portrait! f/10! None of this one eye in focus 'stuff'.

This 70-200 F4 G zoom is easy to live with. Quite excellent as far as IQ goes, right from F4 (shines at 5.6), and overall rendering as well as bokeh very pleasing, and given its reasonably compact and lightweight build it's a pleasure to handle. I've had mine since it came out and have absolutely no plans to replace it with anything else. I bought it only because at the time this was the longest FL available and I only shoot with it when I want the extra reach beyond 100mm, which is usually some sort of action like airshows and my kid running around. I never used it as a go-to portrait lens as I don't care for the look at 200mm, but I've snapped a few close-ups over the years here and there when it happened to be on the camera.

Some people think headshots look great at 200mm but I feel the opposite... faces become too distorted (flattened) and unrealistic - the opposite effect of shooting headshots with wide angles happens. Sure when you're trying to minimize your subject's big nose it can be helpful, but to me 85-135 gives the best balance. Anyway, here are few snaps at 200 for you:

95% of my images with this lens are airshows where I find it really great with accurate and fast AF and excellent tracking

To my eyes it's plenty sharp with nice OOF rendering

 Same here...

It's my only zoom lens and it's a keeper - ensures I have 0 lust over the GM 2.8 ;)

"Proper" perspective for portrait lenses has some cultural relevance, in different parts of the world, people keep either shorter or longer distances between each other, so what looks right to one looks more distorted to others.
