Just purchased this camera today. I've heard wonderful results from this camera. Does anyone have this camera and any input that can help?

I got one for my daughter to take on a one week camping trip. Trip is over now so I am using it quite a bit.

It is a really nice camera. I can't say I have any particular tips about it. It just works. And is really fun to use.

We have the SX710 - which I believe is the same camera except for the fact that it only has 30x zoom. Got it on sale as the 720's came out. Bought it mostly to use on a trip to Nevada as my wife didn't want to be lugging a heavy DSLR through the desert. Overall, we got some great photos with it and sometimes I find myself grabbing it instead of one of my many DSLR's as it is so convenient. The only limitation I have found with it is that it is not particularly strong in low light situations and you might have to use a flash. Also, the flash is adjustable so, if it's really low light, you can boost the flash output which is really handy.

As an aside, our camera came part of a package deal which included a Canon hard case that you can attach to either your belt or a backpack. It is very sturdy and keeps the camera safe. You might want to consider getting one if it wasn't included.

I hope you're finally happy with a camera.

Marie

Edit. Oops. I see you've already purchased the SX720, so you can ignore my post below. There will be very changes in the SX730.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The SX720 prices should drop after the SX730 is released. The SX730 will probably be announced at the NAB show this week. Images and specs have just been leaked at Canonrumors.com .

I'm being optimistic. It's like learning math, you do it till you get it right!!
Not really. :-( Unless you keep buying the wrong books for the type of math you want to learn.

As I mentioned (and provided links) in my to reply to you in the Panasonic Compact Talk forum, there are several online sites that give GOOD full reviews with full size sample images to view/ download to help in selecting a camera that best fits your needs and budget.

Even if you're a beginner, can read reviews, make notes, and THEN come to the forums with questions for the items you need help with making an informed purchase decision, rather than purchasing and then asking:

"Does anyone have this camera and any input that can help?"

Cheers,
Jon

I understand what your saying. It sounds to me that people are upset that I've tried different cameras and haven't been happy with them. So I was it's the same thing as doing a math problem you keep trying and you'll figure it out. My boyfriend of 15 years just passed away and this is a way for me to try and focus on something else.i will continue to find the right camera if I have to. What's good for someone might not be good for everyone.

i appreciate everybody's input but please go easy on me at this sad time in my life.

Hi Susan,

I'm very sorry to hear about the sad events you're experiencing right now. It's helpful to have a creative outlet to allow you to focus your attention on something other than your grief, although it's important to focus on grieving as well. As for the SX720, I bought one a few weeks ago with high hopes that it would be a great pocket do-everything camera. I loved the feel of the camera in hand and the incredible focal range. I was sorely disappointed with the quality of the pictures that I got though. The noise reduction is very heavy-handed and smears detail at low ISOs, even at ISO 320-400. I ended up taking mine back and i purchased a G7x Mark II to use as my compact digital camera. It's a horse of a completely different color with a much, much shorter focal range, but the quality of the pictures is outstanding! It's also significantly more expensive, but definitely worth it to me. For long focal range in a compact camera, I'm going to have to do some research and see what's best, but the SX720 was not for me. A lot of people like the camera though, so I hope you have great success with yours. I love your signature quote, by the way.

Andy thanks so much for your lovely reply. Yes grieving takes a lot out of you. I was reading all the reviews on Amazon and it seemed like everyone loved it. Also read reviews on other sites. I am just a beginner and wanted something compact with out all the toys and whistles. I had myFz150 and loved it. It broke when I was on vacation. I didn't want to buy a used one. fZ150 took gorgeous pictures, fresh, crisp, and great colors. I really need to watch how much money I have to spend. I tried the lx100 panasonic and i couldn't get the quality picture that I did with the 150. I never had to use a photo editor because the pictures were terrific. Then I tried the FZ300z it was really too heavy and my fingers hurt me, I then figured I try the fz80 and it was even biggger and still my fingers bothered me. So now I am trying the canon SX70z I will get it tomorrow and I'm hoping I like it, if not I will return it to Target where I am a retired employee. If you use their Target credit card you have 90 days to return it also I get a discount so it's not a bad deal. I'm happy you like your new camera. I will let you know what I think of sx720.

Thanks again for being so kind and understanding.

i wish you a beautiful week.

I am sorry to hear about your loss. I hope you hold up okay and can manage to find some light in daily activities. I know it can be hard but it does get better with time. One of the things that helped me with the loss of my father and sister was just keeping in mind I was carrying on as they would have wanted.

As far as the SX720, I get the most fun out of it holding it close to stuff and taking photos. Colors are great. Flash works very reliably, being just right... not too bright... not too dim. I guess somedays I take photos just to be keeping busy...here are a few.

I'm so sorry to hear your sad news. I can't imagine what you're going through. I hope whatever camera you choose gives you a creative outlet and the opportunity to make something beautiful.

Susan,

Just now read your post regarding the loss of your mate; so sorry for your loss..!

Just wanna say, you are perfectly entitled to undertake any constructive activity you want, to help you in your grieving process, including exploring your new camera and posting as many questions and comments to this forum as you darn well want.

As has been stated before in this forum, no-one can rightfully attempt to limit or control what you post here, as long as you are following the forum rules.

Thank you so much. When you don't have stores to go in an handle the cameras it's very hard. So I order from Amazon or Target. I'll keep trying till I get it right.

yes grieving knocks the heck out of you. Sometimes it's very hard, like right now I feel choked up. So with exploring its very helpful for me.

Best Wishes,

Susan
