♣ ♣ Bootstrap's Sunday 'Scapes ♣ ♣ 26 March 2016

Thank you. I took the photos yesterday. The blossoms were in much better shape than I expected. This was the first time we went to D.C. for the cherry blossoms. We moved to MD last year. The crowds were yuge! Reminded me of NYC during Christmas season.

Thank you, Andrew.

The photo was taken from the balcony. I regret that I was in such a hurry and I really didn't have the right lens. The altar piece is actually a 15th Century of Italian art, one of only two in the US--its companion sits in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It sits in a humble church in a small town. It pays to have wealthy members.

I did have the thought when I first saw your shot, but kept my mouth shut, that if you pushed someone into the water (not yourself) you'd have a powerful composition element as foreground. But then I remembered how cold the water is up there.

Yup, Wu, nobody makes what I want. Olympus is the best compromise, but their quality has made me bitter. I think I'll just let it rest for a while and see if any solution, any at all, becomes evident. Sometimes, the only winning move is not to play the game. Rich

i know the feeling, unfortunately i have the Nikon 1's which are likely to be finished and i got a Fuji X100 and i think for some time to come i won't buy anything for photography.

I may not have stated these facts during my demented ranting, WhyNot. I found the output of The M5 great. I just hated the user interface. It annoyed HELL out of me to use it for six months. I like The M1. Not only is the output great, but I like using it. Mine has the battery grip. It fits my hand OK, and the control set up works just fine for me. In a very short time, I was using it as easily as The E5. I like the smaller size, and the controls suit me well enough that I can adjust it without looking at it. The electronic viewfinder is good enough, but the added features in it are enormously helpful. I was more than satisfied and willing to forget Olympus' clumsy change from 4/3 to m4/3. And, bottom line, The M1 makes great pix. Then, it broke. I liked it well enough that I was willing to get it fixed and continue. Then, I found out that lots of owners could not get it fixed, or got it fixed and it broke again, in the same way. So, I continued to use it in its handicapped form while trying to decide what to do about it. For a couple of months, I've been using it and fighting with it and that has got me angry. I rarely get annoyed anymore, and haven't got angry for years. For the past week or so, I've been in a decision making process, I still am. What I want is to have an M1 which works. I'd be satisfied with that. I'm leaning toward calling The Olympus Repair Center and speaking with someone who knows about the problem and can tell me if it can be permanently fixed. I have a feeling that if I do that, I'll end up even more angry than I am currently. I see no optimum solution, so I'll just wait and see what develops. Rich

You don't see many like this in earthquake country. ;) Nice set!

Early morning in Eureka, Nevada.

Nice set Craig, although I have to say the first doesn't look much like my idea of a bar. Don't suppose it matters much what it looks like as long as it sells beer.

Dave

You were up and about early Craig. Sleepless night?😉

Is the Opera House still in business? Culture still alive in Nevada?

Dave

That's a great shot, and I'm happy quiet-seeming places like that exist. The little pedestrian walking sign keeps it contemporary.
Eureka is a quiet little place these days. Mining was the big thing but that past decades ago. Just a few vestiges of the boom--the opera house and some other things. They still have a hardware store in town. The town is on Highway 50 and there isn't much between Sierra and the Rocky Mountains on this road.
