Heading on a two week family trip to the Northwest, including Olympic National Park, Hwy 101 down the coast, The Redwoods, Crater Lake, back to Portland and maybe the Columbia River Gorge. It's a sightseeing trip, I want to travel with one body, my 6d and one lens. What do you think would be the best single lens to carry, no tripods, maybe a mono. Landscape, floral, all scenic and some Family photos, and It doesn't matter what lenses I already Own. Thanks!

With all that scenery, I would go widest possible. This might mean 16 - 35 f/4 (17 - 40 in my bag). I hit all those spots on a road trip in 2015 and the widest were used for almost everything except wildlife.

sorry to say but you'd need at least 2 lenses to achieve that task, such as 24-70 f2.8II and possibly a 70-200 f4.0 IS (for less weight but still high IQ) i have been on most of that trip, especially in california side of it, it is beautiful and i would hate to miss that opportunity especially in the spring! i think the most exciting part of that trip , among many, would be the big redwood area (5 miles drive)!!! i found it absolutely amazing and out of this world! in that area you'd definitely need the UW end of the lens. have fun.

24-70mm f2.8 L.

I'm going to Vienna this fall and have decided to take 6D + 28mm f/2.8 IS.

I'm expecting "all day walking" there and this is my decision( I have back pain)

Refurb 28mm arrived last Fri, I took some images with my 6D and really like this lens. It is small, light and produce very sharp image, as good as from 24-70 II.

In case of driving-and-walking situation, I'd take 16-35, 24-70 and 70-200.

One lens? then, 24-70 for sure.

In general speaking a 16-35 mm, 24-70 mm or a 24-105 mm.

My pick will be 16-35 mm perfect for group and landscape shooting.

I assume you are not walking. If you are driving, why would you limit yourself to one lens?

I always travel (on the coast) with at least the 16-35 F4 and either the 24-105 or 70-300L. Plus I usually throw in the 40STM or 50 STM, both are light as a feather.

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone, we are flying then renting a car. I don't like flying with a heavy camera bag. I have the 16-35 f4.0, I may give in and take that and the70-200 2.8. I have kind of a gap in my lens line up, 24-70 2.8 or 4.0 would be nice. I have a 24-60 2.8 Sigma that I have never liked, so thats out. The 24-105 has interested me as a travel lens.

I have traveled extensively with an APS-C cam and just a 17-85, and later my 17-55 (27-88mm equivalent), and they have been fine, FL range-wise. That said, if I were you, I'd take the 16-35L, and buy a compact 24-70L f4 IS. Sure, you'll miss shots possible with other lenses, but that's always true to some extent.

Don't forget the flash and diffuser to brighten up those faces... Have a great trip!

Yea the new 24-105L would be my choice

24-105 for versatility for a one body/lens setup. pairs well with the 6D too.

16-35/4L

your trip screams UWA vistas. 35mm is distortion controlled enough for family photos.

preferably I'd add a 24-70/4L to that because of weight / size considerations that you mention.
