Is there a way to shoot nx500 footage with a flat profile like slog in Sony? I searched online but couldn't find the solution. Hope someone in the forum can educate me on this? Thanks.

No. NX1 has a few flat profiles and filmconvert supports NX1 too. NX500 is considered a consumers camera, so no need for log (or that's what Samsung thought).

Incrediblelittle camera, even thought it was very critisized when new, it is still one of the best buy cameras and value for money. It's price has actually risen a bit since a year ago.

You can create a custom picture style with reduced contrast, but it's not recommended and produces worse results.

What does woke well is setting the sharpness to -10. The out of camera sharpness is so crazy over the top that even at -10 it's still too high, but looks much better.

Don't sweat the lack of flat profile too much though, many people have found that the built in picture style shook really really good. And I agree.

I don't necessarily think reducing the contrast is a bad idea. Technically my custom profile is -5 -5 - 5.

For me the best result if I use NX1_NG_DC_FLAT (I know it used mainly for NX1 but can help on a NX500 too) as a basic lut profile and after that I putting some creative lut profile on it.

What is the NX1_NG_DC_FLAT??!!

I have the same normal profile for both NX1 and NX500 and seem very close (and very grey!), but I shoot mostly 1080p.

You really don't need a flat profile to get excellent results. Use the bit-rate mod, and expose your highlights properly. Then bring up your shadows in post using film convert or color finale. Excellent luts to work with also. Don't trust the Samsung screen's blacks. The camera is recording more than it's showing.

Do you apply NX1_NG_DC_FLAT on footage recorded with no custom profile OR you apply the flat lut onto -5, -5, -5???
