Gorgeous? G80/85?

Thanks for confirming.

Maybe it is a bad translation in the manual.
I think the adjustment you want, is under "white balance" rather than "photo style", so it's easy to miss it...

Whichever WB setting you choose, you can adjust the Amber/Blue and Green/Magenta balances (eg. move towards Amber for "warmer" colours)

In this same vein, there is an interesting YouTube video by The Camera Store with Chris Niccolls in which Chris and his sidekick test the out-of-the-box JPEGS from 8 different cameras, including the Panasonic G85, the Nikon D500, Canon D80, Sony A6300, Fuji XT-2, Olympus Pen-F, Pentax K-70 and even an iPhone 7+.

They shot three different setups and then submitted the results to various "knowledgeable" folks for ratings. Nothing scientific; very subjective, but with some interesting observations. Here's the link:

I hope Dan from DPREVIEW. who tested the G85 will take a look and think about his GORGEOUS frase, that is/was my whole idea of this tread!

I think you need to look at the recent Camera Store TV JPEG comparison. Based on that, it seems that the famed Fuji JPEG files/colours are vastly overrated.

So, Fuji is getting a free ride that they don't deserve, based on a reputation that they never earned.

THAT's what I think!

Thanks,

Can you use that setting to adjust auto white balance as well and not just the white balance pre sets? In general I find Panasonic jpgs a bit too blue. I would want the auto white balance to figure out the white balance and then make the color one step warmer then what Panasonic considers the right white balance.

Yes, I think that's how it works - it applies to whichever WB preset or Custom WB you choose, even if it's Auto WB.

I will check later, if nobody else confirms/denies in the meantime.

Among many Panasonic compact camera users, adjusting 1 or 2 clicks towards Amber is almost a standard... it seems Panasonic JPG colours always tends to be a bit "cool"...

Just to confirm: you can indeed make those adjustments to Auto White Balance (AWB) NB. press "set" to save any adjustments you make, then "set" again to use that WB...!

Each WB preset can be adjusted independently (eg. adjusting AWB to make it "warmer", will not make any of the other WB presets warmer)

The camera remembers your adjustments for each WB preset, even after power off.

Beware of Custom/Saved setups: adjusting WB while in PASM modes, will NOT affect WB in any saved setups! This is something I consider a BUG. Panasonics didn't use to behave this way, until a couple of years ago, but has been in every Panasonic I have come across since then. I have complained to Panasonic about it several times, to no avail. It is such a nuisance:

eg. I use multiple saved setups for airshows - one for prop planes, one for jets, one for planes when they're not moving but engines running etc... and each one uses the same custom WB, which I set (at each airshow) using a grey card.

Instead of setting my custom WB once, and let it apply to all saved setups that use that custom WB... I must set WB using gray card separately FOR EVERY CUSTOM SETUP, and resave them with the new WB value. And REPEAT all that, every time the light changes -_-

(If people actually wanted custom WB's that never change... they could simply use one or more custom WB slots and never update their values. So no functionality would be lost if this bug was fixed (eg. if Panasonic thinks this BUG is actually a "feature" -_-)

First time I've seen a personal preference described as a bug. LOL

Thanks for checking and confirming. That would make the auto white balance usable.

DPreview says about the Pan G80:

There is only one real area it struggles:
JPEG image quality. This is not to say JPEGs from the camera are entirely unappealing. But when you have similarly-priced cameras like the Fujifilm X-T10 capable of gorgeous JPEG color, it makes Panasonic JPEGs look comparatively 'meh'

Can we fine tune that with the possibilities Panasonic gives in the Photo Style menu and can we reach that GORGEOUS level?

What do you think?
anyone who shoots jpg should never go beyond cellphones.

Or the opposite: any photography enthusiast who shoots JPEG will benefit the most from using cameras with the best lenses, least cropping, most sophisticated controls over JPEG image attributes, sensors with the best dynamic range, best colour palettes, etc etc. That means, the best cameras.

And such photographers gain a huge advantage over the rest of us: for every 10 hours available every week to put into their hobby, they can spend much less time behind the PC and much more in the field, interacting with the world and the subject matter and exploring their photographic images and ideas in 'real time'.

There is a case (and plenty of room) for both types in this hobby: the keyboard warrior who ventures out to the field to collect raw files that he can take home and get to work on, and also the front-end photographer who tries to get it right in the field and in the camera, loving every minute out there polishing his skills with people, with light, and with his camera's image production capabilities (which the big makers put a lot of effort into).

I struggle with "gorgeous" as a colour "style". I is usually a sales word in a woman's styling establishment. Does Fuji actually have a setting called "gorgeous"?
I struggle with "gorgeous". I actually see it as rather over the top, those Regency bucks with all their lace and studied mannerism and whatnot, the Georgette Hayer style ladies with vast bosoms and arrayed in vast quantities of the richest stuff in red and gold and and whatnot.

I can see a big red, red rose being gorgeous.

Anyway, whatever floats an individual's boat!

K. Everett who?

Not the first time I've seen someone fail at reading comprehension. And won't be the last...

It IS a bug. Not a user preference.
