Can a firmware update on the 1DX Mark II bring all the touchscreen features and dual pixel raw of the 5D Mark IV to this awesome camera?

I hope so, but probably not.

Both are hardware dependent. I think it highly unlikely Canon installed a touch screen LCD and a dual-pixel sensor in the 1DX II, then disabled them.

Most certainly yes... assuming most of the hardware I'm both cameras is close to identical. ☺

Highly unlikely. The touch screen requires physical pressure. Canon wouldn't bother to install touch sensitivity in a camera an not implement it. As for the DPAF RAW, I suppose that is barely possible that this is a firmware function but, if that were the case, why wouldn't Canon implement it from the start.

1DX Mark II already has a touchscreen (for live view focus) but doesn't do swipe and menu.

So I'm hoping Canon disabled it on the 1DX Mark II it as it was in it's early stages and they got it right on the 5D Mark IV.

You are correct. I had forgotten that the 1dx ii had a limited touchscreen. Thus, it is probably possible to have full touch capability.

Does canon add features in firmware upgrades? All the "major" firmware releases I've seen are things like "fixed a spelling error in the Portuguese menu".

Itd be great if they could add dpraw to the 80d as well.

While highly likely it's easily possible it's also highly likely it will not happen. Baffled over this one. Recall reading the assumed reasons it was so limited in functionality on the 1DX II was so that Pro's do not accidentally change settings by mistaken touches. If this is the real reason and anybody, in particular a savy Pro, actually agrees with that logic I'm baffled even more. Like in the 5D IV there is a simple option to turn touch OFF. It could be set to OFF by default and I think any human being is more than capable to make this decision for themselves (ON/OFF)... just baffled.

Anyway don't hold your breath... It would be nice to think that Canon would include in the top of the line 1D series every possible feature and firmware feature update and then down the line weed them out but I recall in the case of the 1DX that the 5D III got HDMI out in a firmware update but the 1DX never did.

Yes, many features added to 7D and 5D II that surprised and delighted many.

Also a few to 5D III and 1D-X.

Well at least it's a possibility then.

...I don't think so.

If I read them correctly, with Canon, product differentiation works both ways.

They just don't "see" 1DXII needing the more comprehensive touch screen controls.

If they did, they would already be there as the M3 already features them.

Hey...! What's wrong with that...!?

Do you know how difficult it is understand what "Correção de ilumin periférica" is when it is spelled "Correção de ilumin perifárica"...?

:-) :-P :-) :-P

(PS: I always set the in-camera menus to English. My mind just works better with tech stuff when it is written/read in English...but, for the sake of this little joke, I set my 1DMKIV menu to Portuguese, looking for a designation that would "work", above.

I can't thank you enough.

I had a blast seeing how Canon "translates" the camera functions to Portuguese. I wonder how Portuguese-speaking-only users manage to understand some of the stuff written in there...lol...)

Can a firmware update do this technically? Yes, of course.

Will Canon do it? Perhaps. Understanding Canon's logic regarding features and capabilities is pretty much a total mystery.

At a minimum, I would like to see touch on the review function.

Canon "got the touchscreen right" already with the 70d, which at its introduction had a fully functional touch screen (menu, live view AF, picture review). They intentionally limited its functionality in the 1DX2, most likely to please the conservative "anti touchscreen" faction, and they are not going to change their mind unfortunately.
