I'd appreciate any help and suggestions and corrections on a couple of the enclosed photos on how you get rid of haze and the techniques and software (with which version) used. Before and after photos please. Not asking for all of them to be corrected, but just a few by different responders and their techniques. I probably used a CP on most of the photos and am only posting jpegs because dpreview won't take RAW. Honest comments to me about if I'm expecting too much would be appreciated.

Most of my photography is landscapes and scenic. If I don't own the software, I'll buy it.

Thanks in advance,

Kent

The lens used on the 40D and 7D was a Canon 17-55. Don't know why it didn't show up in EXIF. I think all 6D shots were 254-105 but it shows in EXIF.

Don't know how much this one can be "helped"

This one may be better as is leaving the boats as to where your eyes are drawn and just having the mountains in the background.

I think the best advice is to experiment. I use Corel software so my steps may be different than yours. Here are my " Artistic" interpretations. I add yellow to the image to warm it up, which also hides the haze, and add contrast layers targeted to the specific channels and add gamma to them.

On this one I just used Topaz Clarity, plugin for Photoshop CS6:

This one was more complex, so here's a screen shot of the layer stack so you can see which tools I used and in what order. Also note the masking to restrict some of the effects to specifics parts of the image.

Wow, mikes, I absolutely cannot believe how much difference that made, especially on the first one. Can you tell me the Corel product(s) and version(s) you used to do that? As mentioned, I shoot a lot of landscapes--- especially in the western US.

Thanks again,

Kent

Thanks a lot. I have Topaz Clarity and I'll try it with a couple of photos. Also, thanks for the step-by-step info on the 2nd photo.

Topaz Clarity for the most part. A couple of curves adjustment layers applied only to the most distant mountains, and a couple of selective color adjustment layers to tweak a few hues.

Used a combination of Topaz Clarity, NIK Color Efex Pro and Curves all with selective masking and opacities, some paint with light plus a few other little tweaks. PS CS6

I use Corel PhotoPaint, that comes bundled with CorelDraw and Aftershot Pro. Versions don't matter in this case because they are fairly simple edits once you get the hang of the software. There are a host of other plugins that you should also be aware of, including Topaz, Vertus fluid mask, Alien skin, Nik, and Perfectly clear just to name a few. Also, Google De-Haze, On1 software has a good one,and Kolor too but I never use them.

Here is another that involved a bit of Dodge and burning, and creating a layer just for the sky.

Strictly in Lightroom. Pretty well the standard adjustments and a brush adjustment for the hills in the back.

Here's a good thread. In my case I use the dehaze function in Photoline.

https://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/41192055 Disregard the fact that the first file is missing!

I thought I made a mistake once. But I was wrong!

I remember that one. I also played with the file but apparently never posted it. I also upgraded Photoline twice to the present version 19.50, but there is something that turns me away from it. The same with ACDsee. Often all I need is the paint brush in Lightroom.

Here your pictures that I found very nice, I play with them in LR if oyu like a different format I can also post in DNG just let me know

The expensive camera does not make a good photographer, a good photographer takes great pictures with any camera - GlobalTvlr

Thanks all for the wonderful job you did on retouching my photos. As I've mentioned, I'm mostly a landscape photographer and this is such a great help. You've given me many choices of software. I have Nik and Topaz and am going to upgrade to PS/LR CC and I'll try a couple of the software programs you've given me.

Thanks again,

Kent

A little late... had our grandchildren for a few days :-D Process:

1. In ACDSee U8... Light EQ only.

2. FSIV... Frame & Resize only.

Never saw anything better/ easier than Clear View in DxO Pro. Current version 11. Try the free trial. It's amazing!!! IMHO of course :-)
