In case anybody else could use a break from whether Best Buy is
the devil, the merits of copyright infringement vs sueing AIDS
patients, and front-focusing / back-talking SLR lenses ... maybe we
can all take a break and share our favorite pic we've shot in the
past week or two??

Here's mine:

I still miss many glacier part.
The day i arrive, the fire start.

1/10 sec at f/22. I didn't think to use a filter, since it was
raining. Full gallery:

I think it is 1s, F22,
Using f/22 will make your pics a lot softer than they need to be;
you might be better off to use a polarizer ( or neutral density
filter ) and f/11 to f/16... That will get you the same exposure
time to blur the water, but far less diffraction to soften your
image.
It is near lake macdonald, avalache.
Could you be a little more specific...? I didn't notice any hiking
when I went by Lake McDonald, except by the shore:

But that day avalache is blocked by smoke from the forrest fire.
So this is not sharp enough.
Forget not sharp enough!! This photo has FANTASTIC atmosphere.
The softness in the air really helps it. I'm very impressed,
anyway...

After my 8-year relation broke up about two weeks ago I still can'treally get myself to go and take pictures anymore. I've been to Switserland for about 5 days and have visited 'Bad Ragarts' a small village that has turned into an art-capital for Switzerland. (Ends in september as I've been told)

This is my favourite picture, although I don't like the background and I have one frm the other side, I really like the guy on the far right, hanging in the air, with his hand on the shoulder of the one below him. There's one little guy having the overview and three working. Something just touches me, so I've made three foto's of wich two will be printed (big). This is one of them:

Disclaimer: I don't post this story to be pettyfull or something, just some background info why this touched me. Maybe because it kind of seems to represent that if you stick together, you can do it.

and nice comforting shots too!

Is this where you live?
the first is about 7 miles from my home in western NC--we are in the foothills of the Blue Ridge/Appalachian chain. This is Baker's Mt. which you can see from almost every place around here--and higher mountains in the background depending upon where you are. For my 'real' home (a small non-working farm now) here is a continuing gallery of it
http://www.pbase.com/picnic/picnic

The second is from an upstairs BR in a historic working farm--fell upon the place in the Yadkin Valley (about 2 hours from here in mid NC) while looking for good shots of tobacco fields/vineyards, etc.

This is the start of a gallery on that area--I'll go back as the vineyards' wine grapes ripen (this month), tobacco grows and is harvested--and other agricultural buildings, fields--and the wonderful mountains in the background--change with the seasons.

I definitely like the first one the best. You may want to straighten the horizon a little or the water is going to run out of the picture....

Both images are very nice...

they are difficult insects to shoot. I need to look this one up in my insect book--we have 3 species (well, I guess I shouldn't count damsel flies) hovering over our small pond. I need to take the time to capture them on tripod--and maybe even with my 1.4x converter. My shots are generally further away--and usually with so much pond background due to our garden being VERY 'green' with so much rain LOL. I love the focus on this--with all the background being very blurred--and quite light allowing the dragonfly to stand out so nicely.
