Every time I change to Manual Focus there are this white lines running around
the screen. Any ideas what is wrong with my camera??

That's focus peaking - the display is showing you where lines of contrast are sharpest, indicating what exactly is in focus; as you focus out, those lines will move to objects farther away, focus in and they move to closer objects. It's a way to quickly and easily see where you are focused.

You can probably turn it off in the menu somewhere if you don't like it.

Are there any people, left in this world, who actually read an owner's manual??? :-)

Reading one and understanding it are two different things and IMHO focus peaking is particularly difficult to understand or even recognise until you have actually seen it.

My current Olympus e-manual is pretty much unintelligible and I had to buy a separate book to understand how to set up the camera.
