Well, maybe.

All we really need on the 5D IV is :

- the new sensor technology
- 4K video
- some more mega-pixels
- updated focusing
- and PLEASE Canon, a swivel screen !!!

The swivel screen, particularly the latest 80D touch sensitive one, is a feature useful in many ways, please Canon, put one on a FF body? Preferably the 5D IV.

Anyone else want one on the 5D IV ?

I really hope that it does NOT have a swivel screen. The last thing I need is another weak point for my assistants to wear-out/break.

Please Canon, no pop out screen!

You could always araldite it into a fixed position.

Or train your assistants better, never had an assistant that didn't understand a slap in the face or a slug from a 45...

;-)

I agree 100%

I won't buy a 5DIV without an articulated screen. I'm tired of paying thousands more for a camera that's less functional than a camera that cost thousands less.

Seriously? You can't train your assistants to be proficient with professional gear? How about a you break it, you pay for it policy. Treat this camera like it's your own because if you break it, it will be.

Seriously. I don't want one. I hate them. At least my odds are good, as no full frame Canon (or nikon that I'm aware of) has ever been graced with a pop out screen to date. Only the cheap toy cameras get the cheap toy features ;)

Hi X, The Nikon D750 is a full frame and it has pop out screen, so does the Sony A7R2 and i would not call them cheap or rubbish.
I stand corrected. Though the Sony isn't a nikon. Still, hate pop out screens and I don't think I'm alone.

I'll buy it either way but I don't think it will - touch screen certainly it will be stupid not to. I'd say they'll put in the 6DII to further differentiate the two cameras. If the do it - a tilt screen will really annoy me fully articulating or leave it alone.

personally, I could care less if it has one or not. I'm more concerned with the image quality it delivers. Everything else is just icing on the cake. I had a flip screen on a 70D and really didn't mind working with it. I really liked the touch screen, though.

i will not like a swivel screen on a full frame camera , i will not buy it, it look very cheap on a fullframe dslr

Well, maybe.

All we really need on the 5D IV is :

- the new sensor technology
Clean 12,800 ISO
- 4K video
- some more mega-pixels
28 minimum I hope
- updated focusing maths
1DX II AF system

and

8 FPS but 10 would rock

More "detail set" sub menu options when programming the AF-ON and * buttons.

7D2's AF area selection lever. Can't believe they did not add that on the 1DX II. Small but priceless.

There is no evidence that a swivel screen breaks any more than one that is fixed in place. Roger Cicala of Lens Rentals has confirmed this with the multitude of cameras that his company rents out.

Swivel Screens are very durable; it's a myth that they break more easily. And if one doesn't want to use it, then fine...but no reason to take away a useful feature for the rest of us.

I'll vote for the swivel AND a touchscreen (even though I know it will most likely not come with a swivel screen - that may be left for 6D II)

Those fixed non-touch screens should be treated similar to the way we treat floppy disks - they should be relegated to the past among with old dinosaur age behemoths.

Time to look forward now. Look at the Pentax K1, Nikon D500, Sony A7rII etc. - all come with the swivel screens and proven usability.

A swivel and touch screen are becoming pro level features, esp. for video work. It's foolish in this day and age of smartphone technology that any camera not have these features. And let's also face it: the amazing Canon dual pixel AF really demands a touch screen; that feature becomes so much more usable with a touch screen.

For those who don't want to use them, fine, then don't use them...but there's no reason to deny useful features for many.

The people who decry the swivel and/or touch screen sound just like those who criticized video in a dslr...it's the exact same argument. In time all cameras will have a swivel and touch screen, because they are so useful and there's no reason to not have them. Also, with entire generations growing up using touch screens on smartphones, it will be the only way to compete.

anticipated announcement date? I'm holding off on 1DX II until I see what the MK4 has to offer.

dont swivel screen swivel round ?? so the lcd can face the body therefore be more protected than a stranded screen???

For those that haven't owned a camera with a swivel screen, there are a few occasions when it's priceless, and not just for hand-held video.

With Live-view on a tripod it's invaluable, particularly if you're stretching the tripod up higher that yourself to get a better perspective, or very low down. Tilting the screen to better see what is going on is great.

Just like a show when you're at the back of a crowd, hold your arms up with Live-view and the screen tilted down and you frame and get your shot, even with a telephoto.

Crowching down to take a shot with the camera at ground level for a great perspective (eg just above water, or if it's damp and muddy and you don't want to lie down!), tilt the screen up and bingo, you frame and get your shot.

Table-top macro work - when you've got the camera on a table-top tripod, and doing some repetitive fine focus adjustment to get that beast or flower or whatever, tilting the screen for a comfortable view is a real bonus.

There are all cases where I've found it invaluable, and regretted not having one on 5Ds and 7Ds. (hence my replacing 7D with 80D for the sensor and screen).

Any other uses ?

I wouldn't mind a tilt screen more similar to the k1, or the D750, but not a swivel screen like the 80D. I would only need the screen to tilt up and down, not stick out on the side of the camera when all I need is for it to angle up and down. It would come in handy for things that are below me, wouldn't have to bend over as much.
