Just stumbled across a vlogger on youtube briefly talking about the Canon 80D. I don't expect him giving an actual review with data and samples and stuff but I was wondering if anyone has similar reliability issues that he mentions in the video? He saids the camera screen would flicker or go off and on sometimes on it's own and it did happen on the video. Also he mentions about major audio issues but he didn't say specifically what they are so can't tell if it's actually a problem for the 80D.

Anyone stumbled upon the screen flicker issue though?

The video (starts at around 1:30):

He saids he had no such issues with the 70D and so he's retiring the 80D and going back to his 70D. Is the 80D really that inconsistent?

I saw his rather sketchy statements. I don't think you can base much off the claims of one person. Also, he treats his gear in a rather rough fashion.

As with any new camera model there can be small quirks or inconsistencies with performance. These are often fixed with a firmware update.

That may be one of the most painful things I have ever watched.. Ugg, my eyes and ears are bleeding..

I've had no issues with my 80D, however I do not shoot video

When purchasing technology, I prefer to wait until after the first firmware update has been made. Not sure I'm going to adhere to that in this case, though.

I don't know of the specific issue he mentioned, but I know he treats his equipment like trash. Not surprised if someone like him has more issues than others.

Casey is brutal on his gear. I saw from the camera's perspective that he dropped his new 80D within five minutes of getting it from his bike to the pavement, and it was still recording. I thought that was impressive. His idea of taking a camera out of the box is turning the box upside down and letting it drop to the table. He's gone through seven 70Ds in one year alone. He grinds up cameras like he's a Canon recycling plant. Go pros don't even stand a chance with him.

I'm buying an 80D at some point, and I wouldn't let what Casey had to say change my decision in the slightest. I laughed when he said that. I'm surprised he didn't order more 80Ds. I guess it's understandable. He cranks out a vlog every day, and he wants to use what works, but that 70D he went back to won't be around for long. He makes hundreds of thousands a year off of YouTube. Must be nice to go through gear like I use paper towels. I think he goes through those canon wide angle lenses about once a month. Is that a reflection on that Canon lens. No, that's reflection on Casey's parents who didn't teach him to be careful with his things. :-)

Ditto. I'm not sure it he has no idea what he is doing with the way-too-fast shutter speed, jarring camera movements, etc., or if he is purposely going for an overdosed-on-caffeine look and feel. But either way, it's definitely irritating.

I do shoot video and have not had problems. But I haven't tried repeatedly slamming it down on a hard surface either.

It never had a firmware update for 70D...

Magic Lantern doesn't count? :-D

Does anyone with a 70D feel it should have received a firmware update? I believe several people have stated the 7D MkII should get one.

Casey Neistat is the biggest idiot I've ever seen on Youtube. If Casey said the sky was blue I'd ask for a second opinion. This is a man who burnt himself after reheating a pizza in the microwave and then blamed the microwave for being too hot and the cheese for being too high in fat and thus conducting more heat.

He's also a man grossing approx $500,000 a year on YouTube. I'd trade my mad microwave oven pizza skills for what he's accomplished on YouTube any day. He does principal photography and spends 2-6 hours in post every day to submit a 10 minute short. Stupid? I don't know, but he is one of the most disciplined and driven people I've seen ....and I'd say about 1 million of his almost 3 million subscribers adore him.

And america rewards an idiot like trump as a presidential candidate: success at being a moron does not translate expertise in about anything: except being an idiot.

Being an intelligent and correct individual is another matter.

And this is about a statement saying the 80d is unreliable: and the man saying that is clown who cannot even understand the basic principle of overheating cheese.

you want to discuss mindless adoration being wrong? hell, hitler had an entire nation adoring him and that has nothing to do with the price of tulips in amsterdam.

Maybe this is his business model, torture a product until it breaks and make money off
Youtube. Bad news for Canon and us, we're paying for the replacements.

Canon are very often criticized for their conservatism and lack of innovation, but there's one thing they don't usually get wrong, that's reliability.

I went through a 60D & a 70D without the slightest hiccup, I've now got the 80D and everything is working flawlessly. So no reason to be afraid.

How are we paying for replacements?

I bid, nothing.

If he's breaking cameras in the warranty period and expecting Canon to fix them
then that cost would eventually be passed on.

Actually, millions of people adoring Hitler had everything to do with price of Tulips in Amsterdam and the rest of the world economy. But Okay Casey = Hitler.

Here's Casey with his gear recommendations for film making:

To say this guy is clown/idiot is a bit of reach.
