Hi all,

recently, I've found a 2nd handed Canon EF 50-200mm f/3.5-4.5 L was selling, I'm very interested in this lens. Did any one use this lens before?
any comments on this lens?

Better value than the 100-300L even !!!

Sharp, fast aperture, but Slooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow Focussing, I mean as slow as a 100-300L or Sigma 170-500 !!.. So lomg as it's at the "Going rate" about £250 in the UK, it's the bargain of the millennium so long as it's in good shape and you don't want to track frisky seagulls with it on a D60 ;-) .. LOL

It's a Pump Zoom like the 70-210 F4, and 100-300L so expect some dust in there though there shoudn't be a whole coating of the stuff..

I agree with Adam, This lens is not very good for action shots but is excellent for landscape. The optical quality is first class and with the Canon 10D and the 17-40L you have an excellent lightweight kit ( 17-40L + 50-200L) for backpacking.

I just sold mine because I'm getting a f/2.8 (probably Sigma) and I have the 200mm prime and Tokina 24-200 already. The buyer was very happy about its sharpness, he said it's even sharper than the several 70-200/4L he's tried. That says something.

It's not for sports like others said but a great outdoor lens with the 50mm wide end. Here's some samples I still keep:

Thanks all,

If I have to shoot the indoor or low light situation, I've own the 70-200 F2.8 version. Actually, I need a lens with sharp & great image quality with light weight for outdoor shooting. You know, I always go out on sunndy days with a 20-35, 90 2.8 macro, 28-75XR F2.8 & 100-300 F4-5.6 or 70-200 2.8. This combo is not a good walk around lens combo ma, too heavy.

& 100-300F4-5.6 is too soft, I have to stopped down to F8 to get the sharp image.

although you've said that it is a sharp lens, but the lens went out the factory for over 15 yrs, I'm afraid of the quality will drop!
