Quick question for the GIMP users.

I finally found what seems to be a later version of the Gimp User Guide which has less pages (451) but did not find a Revision Date. The original DL version had 651 Pages with the rather old revision date. Thanks to all for their help.
How and where did you find it? I could not do so.

I did find this Quick Reference PDF, which might be helpful for anyone wanting to learn keyboard shortcuts.

By the way Vernon, GIMP runs much faster on Linux, especially with Gnome based desktop, than on Windows. So if you can run virtual machines, or have a spare Linux box, you might want to try it there.

I got the 451 page version at: http://docs.gimp.org/odftest/en.pdf

I Continue to not be certain this is the current User Guide. See what you think of this Version

Edit to ADD: I have not found details (that work properly) for installing the Gimp User Manual so to have access on "my local Computer" for HELP. Use of the On Line Help is not desirable or logical for me -- so if anyone knows how to accomplish, please advise.

There seems to be so many "straggling details" that I wonder how (even with the help using Google) to get all the parts to work together in order to try to use the Software.

Looks like this is for an even earlier version, GIMP 2.2.

Adobe Acrobat can produce a PDF from scattered HTML files. Do you have access to Acrobat Pro?

No, I have only PDF Reader. However, I believe that would require knowing all the parts and pieces and my issue is trying to "Chase down" what is actually needed and (so far) have not found. One link (didn't make a note of name) appeared to be a proper site but it was not working. I expect this type conditions happen when there are so many involved with the entire "world wide" effort relating to Gimp.

This is not intended to be a criticism, instead; I would just like to get the needed items (parts) all together and working as a unit. I guess perhaps that some assemblies also include the user Guide/Help information -- but not those I found.

Here is the version 2.8 pdf manual:

http://gimp.linux.it/www/meta/gimp-en.pdf

You can verify it's the 2.8 version on page 24: "What’s New in GIMP 2.8?"

I DL this version from the above provided link and attached a copy of page 24 and it seems to be different. The file has 951 Pages. The file I downloaded may not be the correct file based on what my Page 24 has.

Do you know where I can find details and information for installing User Guide to function in conjunction with the "Local" Help function.

5079dc7994a54990a91db715ce1e466a.jpg

Edit to add: I did a search in the User Guide and found the page with What New at Page 4 -- so obviously the page 24 must have been a typo. I did this after looking at "part" of the link you provided and also found another reference to a User Guide (for a different Language) but with the same date as the one you referred in post.

Evidently I do now (with your help) have the latest User Guide. Now, I need the Help Install information (for installing the User Guide) so to get the Help working on my Computer without having to be Internet Connected to use it.

Sorry, I should have said the 24th page of the pdf file (which is "Page 4"), not "page 24".

Why not enjoying the best of both worlds? I am using FastStone to manage all my photos (including raw), to create slide shows to export and rename photos . For the editing part I using the developer edition of Gimp 2.9.3. FastStone provides the edit with external program function which makes my work flow quite seamless. I got my Gimp distribution from partha.com, which works and does include the Photo Flow raw plugin. That combination give me the ultimate control, using layers , 32 bit precision, curves and all the tools I could ever need. I moved over from CS4 several years ago and I am quite happy in the FastStone / Gimp universe.

Did you download the regular 2.9.3 Experimental GIMP, or the Color Patched Experimental?

I downloaded a 2.9.3 build dated December 12 2015, and had the impression it was unfinished, so I went back to using 2.8 on Linux, although 2.8 lacks 32-bit operations.

In this thread at the following link -- Patco suggested the below listed version for download and use.

http://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/57701251

The current stable release of GIMP is 2.8.16 (2015-11-21)

I DL and installed it and have Down Loaded version 2.8 pdf manual from: http://gimp.linux.it/www/meta/gimp-en.pdf also recommended by Patco.

However, The Help (for Local individual Computer) is not functioning. So far, I have not found proper details for installing the Help System which evidently uses the PDF Manual (User Guide) as part of the "Local" Help System.

Can anyone help with advice and details of how to get this HELP part of Gimp working properly.

I have opened only one image in Gimp starting to get acquainted with the interface and Menu Details. With this limited access, I did not see the option for selecting to save an adjusted file using Save As for either file type -- Name.JPG --OR-- Name.TIF . Hopefully, both are available for use especially when saving a file (with layers) as a .TIF.

It works on Linux Mint. I do not have GIMP installed on Windows, so I can't help, sorry.

It's weird, but as of GIMP 2.8 it does not Save files, it Exports them.
I downloaded the Help part to be installed. It installed with no known issues, however; when selecting HELP within Gimp -- it does not run properly and displays a Help-Browser.exe Message. Parse error in 'http//docs.gimp.org/2.8/en/gimp-help.xml'

GET request failed: WinHttp error: NAME_NOT_Resolved.
The colon after http is missing. This could be a bug in the Windows build.

You can download the help file from the download page, under "GIMP User Manual" :

https://www.gimp.org/downloads/

It's an .exe file, which, when installed, will open when you click the "Help" button in GIMP.

That combination give me the ultimate control, using layers, 32 bit precision, curves and all the tools I could ever need. I moved over from CS4 several years ago and I am quite happy in the FastStone / Gimp universe.
Did you download the regular 2.9.3 Experimental GIMP, or the Color Patched Experimental?

http://partha.com/

I downloaded a 2.9.3 build dated December 12 2015, and had the impression it was unfinished, so I went back to using 2.8 on Linux, although 2.8 lacks 32-bit operations.
In this thread at the following link -- Patco suggested the below listed version for download and use.

You can download the help file from the download page, under "GIMP User Manual":

https://www.gimp.org/downloads/

It's an .exe file, which, when installed, will open when you click the "Help" button in GIMP.
