Thought I'd share some images from my day of "photting" some trains at the Severn Valley Railway here in the UK. Engine No. 1501 may feature as numerous examples, basically because she's a hellfire little beastie and always puts on a good show for the camera (She's a show off!)

Image 1: 1501

1501 on the same run up the bank but this time a pan shot. Can't decide if it's in focus or not, or if I need to work on my panning skills! As you can see the ticket inspector is rather engaged with her spirited run up the bank!Same equipment as above but this time ISO 250, 128mm, F/22, at 1/30th second.

Image 4 (and my favourite of what seems to be a good bunch!): 4566 across the rooftops

Across the rooftops: GWR Prairie pulls her heavy train across Bewdley North Viaduct on the Severn Valley Railway.

It does seem to me that I had a good day out on the lineside, though not always on the actual lineside and the X-Pro2 performed well and did what I wanted it to do. Hopefully these images give a good account of my hobby and skill because there's some seriously good togs on here! Still learning and I think I always will be. Anyone who wants to see more or has advice etc, please do comment because I only learn through fair feedback :)

One question though, say I set the Camera to Velvia and certain settings like sharpness and highlights and shadows etc but when imported into Lightroom, the pictures seem to change from what they seemed to look like as I load them up. Auto tone and all presets on import are turned off so I assume it's just Adobe being ruhhish, any suggestions so I can get the best out of my kit?

Thanks

Chris :)

Very timely as I will be doing the same thing this weekend. Nice work. As for your question, third party RAW converter software generally does not recognize picture modes selected in the camera. Thats all cameras not just Fuji. The initial image displayed by LR will be the jpeg generated by the camera but as it generates its own previews it will use its own defaults for the camera and so the images changes. The current version of LR has presets for the various picture modes such as velvia but you have to select them.

Great to see some cracking images from my home county, nice shooting, really love 1st and 3rd image. Think the lightroom import question was answered above so no need for me to comment. Thanks for sharing.

These are very nice.

No. 2 could be image stabilisation problem due to low shutter speed. The lens will also most likely not be very sharp at f/22. Colours in imported jpegs should be the same as in camera, only the RAF files can be tricky.

Great shots and thanks for sharing.

I love railroading and capturing it in photos but we don't have anything nearly as interesting as you have or the beautiful countryside for a backdrop. Every once in awhile North Star Rail brings their S3 into my city and I get the opportunity for something unique and exciting but it's been about 10 years now since it's last been here.

Here's my last photo op with the S3

Very nice work and a much-favoured subject of mine. Hawksworth's 1500 class were the only GWR engines to use outside valve gear and Walschaerts at that, feisty little tanks, used to shunt ECS at Paddington.

Good job, hope you visit a few more lines.

Good stuff here on the images. FWIIW, I have given up shooting RAW on Fuji X cameras. I just shoot JPEG at full resolution and grab whatever Fuji Preset I want, mostly Pro N. You can rest assured that the preset is maintained in LR, where the RAW file is just a RAW file and you have to go to or create your own LR preset to get your desired photo effect.
