The implication from the post by a DP Reviewer staffer in another thread was that they know something about the N1 future.

If so why are they not telling us? We don't need it formatted in an elegant way, just tell us what it is.

Could you link the referenced post? - thanks.

Maybe they are already testing a pre-production sample of the V21 P weather sealed body with…

...and are not allowed to tell us yet.

And a couple of fast lenses…

...but do they have an obligation to tell us anything? I mean, how much did you pay for your membership?

Other than that, even if they would know something, they would NOT tell us before Nikon would go public, otherwise they would ruin that Nikon contact.

Perhaps I misunderstood this post

(or it's irony?)

in either case I apologise, otherwise let's hear it

typically Imaging-Resource supplies much better interviews when it comes to teasing details out from Nikon execs. however i'm hoping this year's delay has more to do with DPreview taking a much better stab at translation than in the past — where they've came across like dewey eyed school girls in awe of their teachers. JMO.

Corporate executives are in the business of giving vague, evasive, uninformative answers. In the DPR interview, I doubt that Nikon said anything definitive about the future of N1.

Only Nikon Europe rather than Nikon Japan, but

had some gems in January 2016.

Regarding the DL
AP: There are a few areas of the market Nikon is yet to exploit – a large sensor mirrorless camera and a large sensor pocket compact being prime examples. Rival manufacturers are producing these types of cameras, which asks the question; when will Nikon do the same?

DJ [Nikon]: We are always considering and looking in to what the market needs, and trust me we will follow that very closely. Of course I can say nothing about future product launches but if we think the time is there to launch something in that field we will do it.
Regarding Nikon 1
AP: Nikon has persisted with the Nikon 1-system for a long time. Will Nikon actively look to develop the Nikon 1-system in the future?

DJ [Nikon]: We keep on with the Nikon 1 system because the whole concept behind the Nikon 1 system was to have a high performance, easy to use camera. Actually the [market] responded very well to that. Our intention was never to reach in to the DSLR and say the Nikon 1 should never be a replacement for a DSLR.
In general
AP: With the Nikon D5 and D500 arriving early in the year and of course Photokina to look forward to later in the year, is it fair to say that we’ll see a lot more of Nikon this year?

DJ [Nikon]: It’s fair to say that there’s a long way to go this year and we’re still in the first month. I can’t say anything about future products as you know, but yes I can confirm that the year will be busy.
Last, regarding new cameras:

Knowing that Nikon 1 is made in China, there are 8 cameras that have been registered in 2016 from China (out of 13 total from 2016). We can try to do the accounting to make sure all the potential cameras that are made in China (incl. coolpix)

Assume D5 is made in Japan.

D500, Coolpix A100, A10, A300,A900,B500, B700, Keymission 360, and the 3 DLs = 11 cameras
There are 13 registrations, so there should be 2 more cameras coming out shortly if my accounting is right. Maybe one of them is a new Nikon 1.

Never say never again - at least never in the same unpunctuated sentence. Could certainly have been formatted in a more 'elegant way' - as the OP put it. Is there a missing pronoun (we?) before "say"?

My skin is too thick to take what you said as being rude. Of course I paid the same as you, which may not be nothing, incidentally, as Amazon must think the advertising exposure they get in these forums is worth their while keeping them going.

If they were going to tell us nothing, why would they put out a couple of teasers about translation, etc?

However I suspect I am flogging a dead horse with hoping to get news of where we are going.

New CX body coming Tom.....I'm betting on it. (Well not really betting 😉)

Not sure if it of much importance, but today I received an email from B&H related to an order I placed (over 5 monhts ago) for the J5 case, letting me know that the case is discontinued by manufacturer. It is possible that the case was not selling well.

At least they did not tell you it was being replaced by a DL case!

This is typical with structured interviews. Proprietary information can be embargoed. If this was a news event (not an interview) DPR would have no obligations to Nikon. It's a similar situation when Nikon gives DPR a new camera for preproduction testing. The is always an embargo period where mum's the word. That's why, when the embargo period has expired, all of the sites that had preproduction equipment releases their evaluations.
