I have a Canon Pixma Pro 100. It came with a sample pack and free 13x19 luster. I decided to order a sample pack from Inkpress so I can get an idea of what different paper does and learn more. Ink press' website says there are no profiles to install and to use the Canon installed profiles (except it says use Canons "semi gloss" for Inkpress' "luster, even though canon has a luster profile).

Where I am completely lost is do I print from Lightroom, or use the Print Studio Pro plugin (even though its been very buggy and I can't figure out how to add more than one photo). Any help with that? And lastly, on the bottom right side of the Print tab in lightroom, the menu says "Media Type", and the only two choices are Gloss and Matte?? That I do not understand at all. It's the option right above the profiles.

I have questions about calibrating my Mac, but I think I can find that on youtube.

Any help with be AMAZING

I haven't got Lightroom in front of me, but the matte vs gloss is I think for the sharpening. Anything that isn't real matte, as in fine art matte, plain paper matte, is going to be gloss. Gloss/semi-gloss/pearl/satin/silk/lustre/semi-matte/photo-matte, they are all really gloss papers.

Thank you!

Yes, the sharpening in LR is glossy/matte. As Brian said, if it's not matte, then it's glossy. I think the matte papers have more 'dot gain' (the ink spreads out more) so the sharpening has to compensate for that.

What's your Mac calibration questions/issues?

I find printing from Lightroom is more useful. You can set precise print areas, a much larger variety of print layouts is possible, you can save your print settings under Collections and even save your print layout to a jpg file.

I find Print Studio Pro much less flexible and it has a problem with the displaying the UI fonts on my PC.

Thanks guys, much appreciated

If you want more than one photo to show up in PSP you need to select multiple photos in the host program (LR, PS or Canon DPP).

I haven't found PSP to be buggy; download the latest version of PSP from the Canon support site for the printer.

The primary advantage of PSP is it helps with setting all the appropriate "switches" in the host program (LR or PS).

If you are printing OK from LR or PS then there is little advantage of going to PSP.

Thank you

I can not give you a definite answer because I do not have any experience with Mac.

Under Windows the Canon printer driver installs a number of paper profiles, unfortunately there is no documentation given which profile goes with which paper. What seems to be is that the printer driver will use one of these profiles if you select a Canon media type if color management in LR has been set to "Managed by printer" and in the driver Color/Intensity has been set to Auto. The problem that you have to solve is to find a matching Canon (Photo Paper) media type for the Inkpress paper.

In Windows 7, go to control panel>color management>associate color profile> then click on 'add' button. This will bring up all the profiles installed and if you scroll down to the printer in question, it lists the settings, paper names, and file names.
