Well I got an early Christmas gift...a quite wonderful alpha77 ii....however, much to my dismay, lightroom 4 doesn't support its raw files. I have lightroom 4 (as stated) as well as dxo optics pro 7 so I am wondering for those who own one or both, which one you like better. One thing I like about dxo is the prime noise reduction as I do shoot higher ISO (above 3200) and sone of the examples show ISO 12800 micro 4/3 cameras look like 800-1600 it does look quite nice. I currently use topaz denoise right now but that seems to smooth details a bit too much but it does do a great job.

To make a long story short......

Do you like dxo optics pro 10 or lightroom 5 factoring in the prime noise reduction of optics pro 10.

Thanks so much for any and all input

I use OP 10.1, and can't imagine shooting RAW and not having the fantastic prime NR. Wouldn't go back to LR or any other PP program.

Perfect.....thanks for a quick reply I'm leaning towards OP 10.1

I use both.

DXO is useful in Prime noise & lens correction.

But if you let me choose one, I definitely choose Lightroom

IMHO, Lightroom is much much more powerful & effective than DXO.

Yes, LR is a powerfull editor, DxO is very good too. 8,5 is free. If you use PRIME most of the time dxo 10 is for you but LR has a very good denoise which is good fo ISO2500 too (imho). I was not going to use prime as much, dor ISO3200 don't need that much and cleaning 25600 makes a watercolor effect and smearing details...

So stay with free dxo 8.5 and LR 5.7, and of course C1Pro for Sony.

Since I have my A850 I use both for important pictures.

I open the raw in DXO 10 and disable everything exept highlight recovery, lens correction and of course prime noise reduction (I made a preset called DNG export for this).

This file I export to lightroom in the DNG format as I am more used to lightroom. For me this gives the best of both worlds.

PS : For you it would give also the advantage that you can keep on using your old lightroom as DNG is supported

Try it if you want and give your thoughts :-)

I've always found LR to be hard work, I can't quite put my finger on why though, I've used it for years and just don't like it. Swapping to DxO was like night and day, it iis easy to use and the lens corrections database good indeed, I have Photoshop Essentials for quick edits.

I have both LR5 and OP 10, and I nearly always prefer OP 10; it seems easier to get the image results I want, and PRIME is very useful when dealing with noisy images. I also like the automatic lens corrections better.

LR5 is handy in a few special cases, and it's a useful host for a couple of plugins I use frequently.

My workflow is DXO - corrections, etc. [I have made a couple of presets] and then export to LR. I also have C1 for reslly special cases. For film emulations; I use DXO Film from the raw file. I find this to give me the bext results for film look.

I trialed LR and OP a few years back. For me, OP seems simple and intuitive and I like the results. I always use RAW (except for rare HDR shots) and process through OP.

I did try using OP as a preprocess and sending DNG to LR - I found this cumbersome and didn't see any improvements over OP alone.

OP 10 made a significant performance improvement in PRIME process times.

OP 10 does require 64-bit system which some complain about...personally, every computer I've bought since 2008 has been 64-bit so a non-issue for me.

I have Optics Pro 8.5 (free!) but I would like to move to Optics Pro Elite 10 for the Prime Noise reduction. I used the LR trial for 30 days and like the system but I seem to be able to do everything (I need) with OP EXCEPT image merge. I like doing a lot of pano work that consists of multiple pics. Can someone tell me where OP 10 (or even 8.5) keeps the photo stitch/merge function?

does anyone use LR for editing then export to DXO10 for noise reduction?

You should test this software.

DxO 10.5 is free for 30 days so ...

You don't want to edit in LR and then go to DxO because you won't be able to use the Prime Noise if done that way. You can open images in LR, and then go into DxO for noise reduction (and several other very nice features), and then go back to LR.

Noise reduction on DXO 10 is so much better! You can edit your images in DXO 10 then send them directly from DXO to Lightroom or Photoshop by built-in plug-in!

Thanks, that is another option.
Just didnt want to modify the raw files, and keep my main editing in LR - but use the Prime noise reduction.
And dont want to have to export out as a DNG or whatever

DxO Optics Pro (at least the Elite version) includes a plugin for Lightroom. With it you can basically work in / through Lightroom but use Optics Pro for noise reduction and other functions.

FWIW I have Optics Pro 10.5 Elite and Lightroom 6.4, and had OP 9 and LR 5 before that. I use OP far more often, and like both the workflow and the results better. That said, if I had a ton of raw files to process, Lightroom's workflow would probably be better, and overall it's probably faster. DxO Prime noise reduction is great, but it can take a minute to process.

Could anyone assist with my query? thx

There isn't one. But you can output your group of files to any popular format and use the free, simple, powerful ICE stitcher from Microsoft. You can even use ARW files.
