Canon EOS 1D X Mark II specs

My 2 cents:

If these specs are correct, it's a letdown after some of the other stuff that has been said earlier in CR2 posts on Canonrumors.com.

The original 1DX has 41 cross points out of 61, so no improvement in number. If they are all active up to f8, that is a nice improvement. But after the rumors of substantially increased number of focus points and expanded focus area, this is still a bit of a letdown.

The focus points lighting up red is nothing new. The original 1DX does that starting with the first firmware update after the original release. I always see my tracking points light up red and follow the target in my viewfinder in AI Servo.

20.2 MP is hardly worth noting as it's such a small increase.

16 fps in live view is not a true 16 fps unless the camera refocuses in between frames, which is highly doubtful.
I guess the Dual pixel CMOS AF would help with that, Tim.

The specs are not impressive comparing to Nikon D5 :-|

From the direction of the reader, we have to provide information about the sharp images and specs of the Canon EOS-1D X Mark II.
  • Canon announce soon EOS-1D X Mark II. As of specs of next EOS-1D X Mark II that is currently known.
    • 20.2MP CMOS sensor. Dynamic range improvement
    • Dual pixel CMOS AF
    • 61-point AF system, which range is expanded. 41-point cross-type. All of the distance measuring point can be selected
    • With lighting AF point red
    • F8 even 61 points all of the distance measuring point can be selected
    • AI AF accuracy and motion tracking has improved Servo AF III +
    • Dual DIGIC6 + processor
    • New mirror drive system that enables high-speed continuous shooting
    • Video 4K 60fps. Possible internal recording at CFast2.0T media
    • Continuous shooting up to 16 frames / sec (live view mode)
    • Dual pixel CMOS AF, enables smooth AF with 4K video
    • GPS built-in
    • USB3.0 terminal, HDMI terminal
    • Dust and water specification
    • Wi-Fi option (WFT-E8)
    • The size of 158mm x 167.6mm x 82.6mm
    • Weight 1340g
EOS-1D X Mark II is, I seem to be equipped with a 4K video of rumor as 60fps. AF is, does not change what the distance measurement points, the range is expanded, It is quite fascinating to all of the distance measuring point is enabled in the F8.

In appearance stand out climax of penta upper portion, but whether this would be GPS. After that, it is where the frame speed and ISO range of continuous shooting in the normal mode is a concern.

Folks, that's a solid leak - not a rumor. What it didn't say is another video mode and a new price point. You guys are days away from announcement, enjoy the weekend!
The new price point was already previously disclosed.

I am curious about the new video mode though...Even if I am not a video features user.

If these specs are real... Canon really is disappointing me. I expected more... much more.

What did you expect ?

- more Mpixels ?

- more AF module (all of this are F8 now, compared to the center only with the 1dx)

- more than 16 fps ? (probabily 12 or 14 with the mirror)

- more DR ? (there is indeed more DR, but we should wait to know how much, and at what ISO setting)

- faster than 4 K 60 fps ?

Well, Power, I am a Nikon shooter and honestly nothing of the new Canon 1DX Mk II appeals me that much or seems particularly groundbreaking so far. The only valid point someone mentioned earlier is that some specs are still missing so maybe you have another chance to be happy within a few days.. From my outer ( forget I shoot Nikon for a moment ) point of view, I'd just say "Meh, another Canon"

Yes another Canon, like another Nikon, in case for the D5.

The earlier specs on Canon Rumors were not exactly exciting, but this goes from bad to worse. I skipped the 1DX and have waited 8.5 years since getting my 1DsMK3, and now I feel cheated. OK, I have my name on the list for a 1DX2 at Photo & Video in Christchurch, but now I don't know I want one.

Very disappointing news. CR makes the point that leaks have been particularly hard to come by for this camera. With such a weak showing, I am not surprised Canon have held tight to their shameful secret!

wifi optional???

with an extra accessory???

come on even prosumer cameras will have it build in

What were you expecting specifically?

Just curious.

If the $6,000 price is true for a 1DXII, is the current 1DX still considered a good deal at its current price of $4,500?

It's exactly what I have been waiting for! I skipped the 1dx, I love my mark IV. The active f/8 points sealed the deal for me. Along with 4K video and dual pixel focusing. I think a very wise move for Canon. Also if they can keep the price down even better.

IF true I will wait until I can get a good deal on one and snap it up in a heart beat.

While the spec isn't a huge step up from the 1Dx, it's still going to be a great camera. I'm wondering if, perhaps, Canon are going to reduce the price point for the new one. With the 7DII having such good AF and 10fps, and being available for so little these days, maybe the time for $7k cameras has come to an end. Let's face it, if they married the 7DII (currently about $1600) with the sensor from the 6D (currently about $1400), they probably wouldn't sell many 1Dx cameras at all.

Wow, that is a weak showing so far. The only thing we had rumored before was a barely detectable resolution increase, and now not even that. I'm surprised they'd even create a Mark II that's so little improved over the excellent 1Dx. Maybe they'll deliver on a serious improvement to the 11.8 stops of DR.
Agree. I still don't understand why Canon is not using 7D Mark II AF system on 1D X Mark II. Is it supposed to be better?
Your kidding right.

I am shocked-SHOCKED that all the nikon trolls are so disappointed with this camera.

61 AF points at f8-fantastic.

16 frames per second with dual-pixel AF-fantastic.

Canon long primes-fantastic.

Canon continues to own 2/3rds of the pro market-same-old, same-old.

  1. Mirror less hence huge weight reduction
  2. Great EVF just as in Sony a7
  3. Same focusing speed with wide coverage.
  4. EF mount.
  5. Same battery life by incorporating larger battery or reduced power consumption.
