State of Fuji 2016

Hello! Long time fuji user and dweller here. 2016 is upon us with Alot of promise. Xpro2 will be released in 2 weeks and things are looking good with it. XE-2s has been wifi registered recently. Which means the release will be coming in a short amount of time. The XE-2 FW 4.0 will be releasing in January(I am excited about this personally).

With the XPro2, a change in sensor and processor is expected. This is a potential headache waiting to happen. It has taken 4 years to get good/great results from photo editors with the 16mp. What do you guys think about this potential problem? Do you think this will be an easy transition to a new 24-28mp sensor?

XPro2 should bring significant advances in auto focus. Do you think Fuji is going to nail this? Or will the XPro2 buyer be beta testers? What are your expectations of this?

33mm 1.0/1.2 is on the horizon. Any potential buyer? 50 on FF was my bread and butter. I love the focal length. I pretty much strictly use the 35mm 1.4 on my XE-1 as my walk around.

120 macro is coming, potiental buyers?

100-400 is an exciting lens for us birders. What are your expectations of this lens? Do you think the AF will be up to par for this lens?

What's next in lenses?!? This is the end of the currently road map! Are all of YOUR NEEDS fulfilled?
I can think of Mk2's(35,18,60). I personally want a 16-70 F4 WR OIS(yes like sonys), but optically far superior. I'm jealous of that lens. But when seeing the reviews I become much less jealous.

Would you want a fast wide angle like tokinas 11-16 2.8?
Cheap 400mm 5.6($900-1000)?
Cheaper XC line of lenses?(16 2.8, 23 2.4, 56 2.4) all 300 a piece, but optically great(think 35 F2)

Pretty exciting year coming! I just want to hear everyone else's thoughts about this.

We have ALOT of really great lenses! One of the best lens line ups in mirrorless cameras! I'm glad I decided to invest into fuji thus far.

Hi,

I'm actually waiting for the upgrade to the x100 series as this is the only thing I think I am missing (more portable than x-t1 with lots of excellent features and iq). I am hoping that by the time I save the money for it that it would be released. I see rumours of September but I hope it is a little earlier.

I'm still waiting for face detection for my X100S. Will definitely be interested in a 1 inch compact camera like Sony 's RX100 series from Fuji.

Just a quick correction, the X-Pro2 will be announced next month, but will released later on the year.

Also, looking forward to the rumors of the 33mm 1.0. I am looking forward to the 120mm macro.

I'd like to see a Fuji prime wider then 14mm, perhaps a 10mm optically correct. Maybe making an f4 so as to not make it so large and WR.

Also can't wait for the eventual announcement of the X-T2.

I also hope the give us a proper flash for the X-system.

It may take a few weeks before all the RAW converters are updated. However, the change in resolution should not change the solutions to the X-Trans CFA. With the subscription business model, Lightroom and Photoshop owners get quick upgrades.

No. I expect experienced photographers to be continually baffled about the complaints while knocking off sharply focused images while the less experienced blame the cameras. Anticipate, and prefocus—no problems.

I loves me my 35mm f/1.4 and feel no need for something else in that range personally. I applaud the f/2.0 but don't need it.

Just can not get excited about the 90mm focal length, though by all accounts the lens is superb. It is the equivalent FOV to a 135mm lens which I always felt was too long for portraits and too short for telephoto tasks. At a 180mm FOV, 120mm will be very useful.

Again, those who understand prefocus are not bothered. Probably not a lens for beginners. Not on my list, since I have full frame lenses through 600mm and a very nice super-zoom camera through 2000mm FOV. I expect in the hands of someone with experience, it will be a stunningly good lens.

Pretty much all the basics are covered with the current roadmap. I expect Fuji will follow the tradition of CaNikon and produce premium and budget versions of all the popular focal lengths as well as some specialist versions such as tilt-shift lenses in the future.

Not really. However, an 8mm or 9mm rectilinear would be nice. My 14-24mm f/2.8 is one of the main reasons I keep my Nikon D700.

Fuji has shown great wisdom in their roadmap. The initial three lenses were the classic photojournalist's kit. My X-Pro1 was immediately a fully functional system. I have since added the spectacular 14mm and a Samyang 8mm fisheye.

Being an occasional Birder myself, I would like to see a cheap 400mm lens. A lot of birders resent having to pay Canon and Nikon prices for a lens they only use a handful of times per year which are far too heavy to carry around anyway. I think it would be a good move for Fuji as well.

The Nikon P900 was so outrageous with its 83× 2,000mm field of view that I bought it. Other super-zooms are probably similar. I expected pretty terrible results considering the tiny sensor and my experience with high-end bridge cameras more than a decade back. Much has changed, and my prints are amazingly detailed of bird feathers, leaves and so on at full zoom. Image stabilization is astonishing even at full zoom Of course depth of field is paper thin. It is dSLR size, but quite light. At about $600US, it is certainly affordable and offers a most impressive package of features. It goes to a 24mm FOV, so can also serve as a backup camera in an emergency.

I find great comfort shooting with my X100 and X-Pro1—but with shorter focal length lenses. The P900 is purpose-built to handle extreme focal lengths and has every advantage in the field over the Fuji cameras. The downside is that as fast as Nikon can build them, they sell. A bit of luck is needed to find one for sale.

To put it in perspective, a 2,000mm f/11 Nikon mirror lens recently sold for around $95,000 and B&H has a used Canon 1,200mm f/5.6 listed for $180,000.00.

It may take a few weeks before all the RAW converters are updated. However, the change in resolution should not change the solutions to the X-Trans CFA. With the subscription business model, Lightroom and Photoshop owners get quick upgrades.

I loves me my 35mm f/1.4 and feel no need for something else in that range personally. I applaud the f/2.0 but don't need it.

Just can not get excited about the 90mm focal length, though by all accounts the lens is superb. It is the equivalent FOV to a 135mm lens which I always felt was too long for portraits and too short for telephoto tasks. At a 180mm FOV, 120mm will be very useful.

Again, those who understand prefocus are not bothered. Probably not a lens for beginners. Not on my list, since I have full frame lenses through 600mm and a very nice super-zoom camera through 2000mm FOV. I expect in the hands of someone with experience, it will be a stunningly good lens.

Pretty much all the basics are covered with the current roadmap. I expect Fuji will follow the tradition of CaNikon and produce premium and budget versions of all the popular focal lengths as well as some specialist versions such as tilt-shift lenses in the future.

Not really. However, an 8mm or 9mm rectilinear would be nice. My 14-24mm f/2.8 is one of the main reasons I keep my Nikon D700.

A proper flash system is something Fuji is in DIRE need of. I have a feeling that will be addressed this year. Won't be cheap though I'm sure. It'll be Canon and Nikon prices.

A proper flash system is something Fuji is in DIRE need of. I have a feeling that will be addressed this year. Won't be cheap though I'm sure. It'll be Canon and Nikon prices.

I'm pretty sure we'll see some flash units. The current rumors for the X-Pro2 say it will have a 250 flash sync. Why put effort into this feature if the current flashes stink. But just curious, why do you say they'll be just as expensive as Canon/Nikon units?

I think the system that they have birthed, virtually out of thin air, since the introduction of the original X100 only a few years ago, is breathtaking.

I will leave it to you guys to hash out the interchangeable lens stuff, but for me, I will be interested more in the compact of fixed lens corner of the X-System product line-up.

Both the X100 (original, S, and T) and the X10/20/30 platforms are the best they've ever been, but where will those two go from here. Or are they mature and something else could be in line.

Also, I wonder if they have been tempted or influenced by the FZ1000 and RX10II to re-visit a high-content 'bridge' camera platform like the XS-1.

For certain, they will have to address 4K video in the range, and why-oh-why they didn't just BUY Metz is beyond me, as their flash options are almost as far behind as their video credibility.

I never get too shook up about their intro schedules when I consider the width and breadth of the system (and those lenses !) they've introduced in the last five years (they must have been REALLY busy), so I'll be interested to see this time next year what actually came versus what was predicted.

Well fuji is going for a premium brand name. So you can only assume there flashes will cost as much as other premium brands like Nikon or Canon.

I am extremely interested in how the X40 turns out! I have hopes that I'm not going to state. But I'm sure it's going to be an interesting camera!

Not interested in the X Pro 2. Maybe he XT2, but I'll more likely wait a while ....... XT3?

I'm not interested in the 120mm macro. It's too big and I already have the 60mm and adapted 90mm macro lenses and tubes. I don't need Fuji's own lens for AF - very few people use AF for macro anyway. I'm not interested in the rumored 33mm f1 or any other big fast lenses.

I'm tired of Fuji's big lens options - it's not why I went mirror-less. I would be interested in some small lenses in the line of the 35mm f2. I really don't want a 16/1.4 or 23/1.4 or 56/1.2. I'm into landscape and travel, and a 16/2.8 and 23/2 would have done me fine. Sealed, with focusing and DOF scales, and an aperture ring of course. I'd also like to see some small telephoto prime lenses. Something like a 75/2.4 - a sensible step up from the 55mm end of the zooms and a bit faster. (Just buy the optical design of Pentax's 70/2.4 but make it a whisker longer.)

And a longer extension tube please Fuji. The 16mm is just way too short. We need a third longer one in the set, preferably with a tripod collar

Great post. I will not get the XP 2 but will buy the XT-2 the second it is allowed. Also the new X100 whatever. I will buy the 120 macro if it is 1:1. (It is.) One of the best mirrorless lens line-ups? No no no. It is THE best lens line up of any type of camera. Fuji is the best glass on Planet Earth. I am not worried about LR not handling the new RAF files from the new XTrans sensor. It already doesn't do that well with the infamous paint-brush effect on foliage a meddlesome problem. Adobe will fix this. Fuji is a class act......
