Took my 3 month old FZ1000 out to shoot photos yesterday and when I turned it on, the lens immediately went to full zoom and the camera died. I shut it off and on several times as well as removing the battery and still dead. Now when I turn it on, all I get is a click and nothing else. I can't even move the lens manually. JUNK! I'll have to send it to Panasonic.

My FZ1000 has got to go back because of a focusng problem, I'm disappointed too but " junk " is a bit strong. I've had three Nikon Dslrs and three Panasonics Fz 7 Fz200 Fz1000 in the last ten years Guess what ? two of my Nikons had to go back within a month of purchase , so it's two one in favour of Pana so far. They're being turned out like sausages these days and the complicated they make cameras the more will go wrong, a fact of life I'm afraid.A load of the stuff on the Fz1000 I'll probably never use, so I would be happy with a simpler version.

""Junk"" ??? :-P

Now I'm worried!

Have just received my FZ1000 and am so far delighted. Hope that it will not go the way of yours.

Let us know how you get on with pana re. a replacement.

Good luck.

Silly question, but was the battery charged?

Before sending it to Panasonic, fully recharge your battery. I absent-mindedly put in a discharged battery and got a result similar to yours when I turned it on. I replaced the battery with a fully charged one and it worked fine.

This is image file # P1700998 taken yesterday. That works out to 5000 images/month for the 14 months that I've had this camera.

2 frames short of 71,000 frames shot by this FZ1000. Camera survived temperatures ranging from -30C to +30C; rain and snow; dog hair and dander; and two drops onto hard ground.

I hope that is all that is wrong with your FZ1000.

Yes. Two different batteries fully charged. I can't even move the lens manually. It's froze tight.

As I said above, I tried 2 different fully charged batteries.

My FZ1000 is off for repair or replacement tomorrow.

As to your own posts appearing, or replies to your posts?

If to issues with your own posts I've noticed DPR being sluggish, and pages not fully loading, avatars not being displayed, etc. Wasn't sure if DPR problem or problem with my ISP.

There's couple of posts I've seen on this HERE, and HERE where moderator noted DPR been experiencing problems with it's servers.

Really sorry to hear that. I love my FZ1000. Thankfully no problems with it so far. I have had Four different FZ cameras before and never a problem with any of them. Now have the FZ1000 and the FZ300, both are working great so far. They will get a real workout soon as Monday I fly to the Philippines and will be there a very long time.

Unfortunately just about any product has some error rate. Typically 1% is the expected Norm. I have had more problems with other cameras, including SLR's then I have had with my Panasonic's. Unfortunately sooner or later a few people will have problems. Forums like this you will hear more about the ones with problems. But overall, their record is very good. Hope you get a service center that will give you a fast turn around with good service.

That's a strange experience you're having. I've never had a problem and mine post instantly, almost. That being said, I've grown more and more discontent with Internet Explorer and many websites that load so much advertising that I eventually give up and leave. The ads are ruining the internet and we're told if it weren't for the ads, there would be no internet. Personally, I think it's the grand old profit motive at work.

This happened to my FZ1000, when it was 5 months old, while I was in a museum, in the midst of a two week holiday. During zooming suddenly the view got obscured, and the zoom blocked. Fortunately, I still had warranty and it got repaired within 3 weeks. I swear I never let it fall, but it was transported sometimes in the front bag on a bicycle, but in a special camera bag. There, of course, it gets shaken. My wife carries a Canon in a bicycle camera bag since years, and nothing ever happened. So I hope that this was not the reason, and that this was the first and last failure. I was very unhappy in the second week, but could still take photos with my RX100 I.

Mine is off to repair. It's been 4 weeks and no indication if it can be fixed or not. I should hear something soon, I hope.

My fz1000 is back from repair, 3.1/2 weeks. As soon as the weather improves I'll be out taking test shots to see if they have fixed my focussing issue.

Also I' ll be looking for dust on the sensor because I dont think a repairers workshop will be as clean as the factory.

I let you all know how I get on.

Well my FZ1000 is due to arrive tomorrow after being in for repairs. Hope it will now be as good as or better than new.

Let us know how it works out, Ron. I've been a happy FZ1000 owner since July 2014 with no problems.

OTOH -- my experience with Panasonic service in McAllen, TX has not been good. Sent a defective LF1 to them under warranty three times and back it came unrepaired each time. It's now in a drawer and no longer used.
